KNO3 + S + Al

How sensitive is this mixture? I want to make some grenades and be able to run with them, drop them, store them etc. I want them for paintball and I want to be sure they won't explode randomly when on my Tac Vest which happens to be on my chest.

Also can you grind Al, KNO3 or S in a mortar and pestle and make it finer or does that not work? I don't have a ball mill, the chemicals I have are fine already but I want really good performance and will a finer mixture be more sensitive?

Alrightey, it's a lot less sensitive than its chlorate based brothers. That does increase when exposed to moisture. Not enough to be too dangerous.

If your chems are already 'fine' M&P wont make that any better. Also I would recommend against grinding any pyrotechnic composition.

OK so say I carried it in a homemade grenade canister while playing paintball, it's going to be shaken, stirred (lol), maybe dropped. Do you recommend it or not? What's your opinion?

I used to play around with KNO3 + S a ton, the ignition heat is pretty darn high, so watch out for that. It also expels a large amount of heat, even burning through one of my iron bucket, so playing in a dry field may not be that great of an idea.

I'd play around with it at home and design a grenade that ignites easily, emits smoke (Obviously), and has a case that wont burn up everything within two feet of it.

No Mg + KNO3 is weaker, it seems stronger unconfined but the Aluminum mixture kills it when confined.
