Will my brothers ID scan?

My brother turns 21 in march, I am two years younger than him and we look extremely similar.

The plan is that he gives me his ID and then gets another claiming that he lost it.

Will the one that he gave me still scan?

If not, would you suggest using it at liquor stores? Or just convenience stores and markets...

I'm guessing your looking to get alcohol or cigarettes? They don't scan ids around here they just look at the date of birth. Never heard of them actually scanning it anywhere.

Liquor stores around here will scan if they doubt my age. This could lead to them keeping the card, which would be bad.
