So, please explain how "we" don't control society.

Well firstly, society is not only involving human beings. As far as living things are concerned, there are a plethora/variety of living things. Let us take my country for example, my country is considered a "society". Supposedly, the extend of this "societal reach" extends throughout cities, towns, forests, rivers, lakes, or even a certain stretch of ocean. Actually in an apparently globalized world, this would just be a demi-society within the greater "global-village". Arguably there are people living within a "state of nature" & a "state of society" (source: Hobbes philosophy). In "ancient" times, of hunter-gathering, agricultural subsistence, or even civilization, nature was above society; at the whim of nature. In contemporary times, it is arguable that society has juristiction over nature. Although ultimately, nature reigns supreme, but that is another matter.
So "society" can roughly be defined as a
system largely involving human beings, with human beings "at the top". The essential distinction between "nature" and "society" is
organization. Not only has man organized nature according to his whim, for his own personal satisfaction & comfort. Moreover, society is not simply one organization, it involves a multitude of organizations; that is the clincher. "We", the collective human consciousness are not in control of society, because "we" are not equal in power. In modern life, people are persuing their goals (the power process) in affiliation with some larger or wider organization. This may be a corporation for example. Corporations are one sector of society. Arguably all of these corporations, defined by their ultimate ownership, are in competition with each other.
Here we see a fracture in power. Think about how many corporations there are in the world, their interests, and the power they posses. Does any one individual control any one company? Does any one company control all companies? If only a few individuals are involved in this control or juristiction, what is the question of 7 billion people controling all corporate matters? Or furthermore the collective "we" having control over society at large? According to the world of words, because society is a collective body of people, then "we" must have have control over it. A family is a collective body of individuals, does that mean that the family is under the juristiction of all family members equally? No! In what circumstance have you been part of a collective, and felt or seen that all members have had control over said organization as a collective?
Of course! Ahh. The demi-society has alot of competition going on, with many rivalry organizations; but they are ultimately at the whim of government, which is at the whim of the people, right! Right? No, that's an illusion, to give the false feeling of power. Because people are actually robbed of autonomy in modern life, that propaganda needs to be their to maintain sanity & "civility". In reality, the reality of modern life & society is that power conglomerates. All individuals are subject to the rules & regulations of the wider organizations they join. And they must join, for they need to fulfill their biological nessecities, which we are told needs money to occur (and in a state of society this is true). Although no one really wants to sacrifice autonomy, they are faced with an ultimadum:
a) Sacrifice autonomy, and join the society.
b) Sacrifice society, and gain autonomy.
Ultimately those are the two decisions. In modern life, technology has given rise to a society rooted in technology. It is technology that enables power to conglomerate, and as a result "we" don't have control over society. The technoindustrial system is a complex collection of interdependent proccesses, which ultimately rob
you of autonomy. If you and I as individuals don't have autonomy or control, where is the logic in saying "the collective 'we' has autonomy and control"? The collective is simply the sum total of robotic, controlless, dependent individuals. At least that is how it is at the moment in society. Ultimately it is not beyond "our" control, because their is a collective consciousness between all living things, it just needs to be summoned from unconsciousness.
