Blank Prescription w/ DEA number
Hello, I'm new. Not sure if this belongs here or not so feel free to berate me if I got it wrong.
I was rifling through the junk drawer in a friend's house when I came across a scrap of paper. It's in relatively good condition, a bit crinkled and very slightly discolored in one spot, but nothing worse than what it would look like it if were kept in the pocked of a slob for a day or so.
The thing that makes this scrap of paper special is that it is a blank sheet from the prescription pad of an ER doctor. It's got the doc's name, Department of Emergency Medicine, *BLANK* Hospital and then the address. It has a phone number and the Doc's DEA number printed on it in the upper right. On the bottom is an alphanumeric serial number of some kind.
It looks completely legitimate, and nothing is filled out. Not the patient name, date, age, any scrip info, refills, nothing. I have no idea how he got a hold of this. I asked him about it and he was pretty oblivious; said he'd never even been to that hospital and that I could take it if I wanted it.
Now I would absolutely never do anything illegal with this, but hypothetically speaking, what could some unscrupulous deviant get away with if they were in my position? Is it possible to, say, write a fraudulent script for 90 80mg oxycodone pills and actually receive them? Should I destroy it right away so no one gets their hands on it and tries it? What are the chances they would succeed?
Basically, what I'm asking is what process a pharmacy goes through to confirm a script once they receive it. One might think "well they would call the hospital to check," which makes sense, but on further thought, what if the Doc in question were to write a script for someone outside of regular channels (but still completely legit)? Like if he was golfing with a buddy and his buddy threw his back out. The doc does a quick once-over, pulls out his pad, and writes him a script for some relief. There would be no one at the hospital to check with about this, right?
Anyway I'm just rambling at this point. I'll probably destroy the thing right now, I'm just here for the academic interest. Any info would be appreciated.

Re: Blank Prescription w/ DEA number
you cannot forge scripts for controlled drugs like oxy. try it and you will likely be caught and spend 6 months in jail/prison

sell the blank paper to a oxymoron. than you negate most of the the risk from yourself

It's a script pad from an ER doctor. They don't write out 30 day prescriptions. You could probably get away with 10-20 benzo pills if you're intelligent enough to pull it off, but that's it. Risk=Reward?

Re: Blank Prescription w/ DEA number
The pharmacy has the option of calling the doctor to confirm the validity of the prescription if they have any suspicions about it, and it's much more likely they would do this if the script was for a Schedule II Opiod. Keep in mind the penalties for prescription forgery are quite severe. I would not at all recommend it.

Re: Blank Prescription w/ DEA number
the pharmacist keeps the hardcopy there trained to spot the slightest mistakes. i fill emergency scripts all the time there mainly for like 10 .25s xanaxs or antibiotics or like 20 percs they wont just give u 90 oxycontins of the highest strenght. youll go to jail its not worth it.

Re: Blank Prescription w/ DEA number
Read over this also
it covers some of the things pharmacists use to tell if its fraud or not
http://www.popcenter.org/problems/prescription_fraud/
check out the sample fraud prescriptions that people have tried to pass off as legit on that page
may help to avoid similar mistakes
