Rant Night Vision Vs Digital Night Vision

What should I get if my budget is only for Gen 1 Night Vision, digital night vision or normal. There are two contenders,
  • Yukon Viking 1x24 Goggles

  • Yukon Ranger Pro

Do you plan on wearing it on your head like Sam Fisher or something?

If so, you want the 1x magnification.

Especially with Gen 1, more magnification means a less clear image.

Gen 1 and Gen 1 digital are pretty similar in ways of resolution but the digital have possibility of a video out and a slight digital inhancement. That could be used for recording to a different device or remote viewing. Unless you need a video out there is no need to spend extra $$ on the digital versions. Rather buy a powerful IR illuminator for the price difference.

Guys it's 2 months before I come back to the US, this country is expensive. An ATN Gen 2 is $3500k WTF?!! I have the money but there's no way I'm going to throw $3.5k at some goggles. I know the Gen 1s are shit. 5.56 SS109 is right about having bad night vision is better than no night vision but still I want a good model lol, they all suck dick when it comes to performance.

Try and look for Israeli surplus PVS-5 or PVS-7 goggles.

I think they are Gen 2 and are relatively inexpensive.

Also, I think the Gen III PVS-14 Monocular is only about $4000.

OP, if you could tell a bit more what you plan to use it for, we could advice better. Generation 1 can be pretty good.

This webpage has really good and simple comparisons and examples of the different generations.
