Default Sleeping every 2nd night

These days I only sleep every 2nd night, I stay up 24 hours on speed then sleep about 12 hours. What kinda negative health effects does this have and what can you do to minimize them? I take piracetam when the speeds outta my system to help protect my brain, I take multivitamins and b complex to keep the vitamin and mineral supply from getting depleted and I take antioxidants and fish oil and drink milk thistle to help my liver deal with the load.

As long as you're getting sleep & nutrition, the lifestyle you've described really isn't that unhealthy. In fact, I do pretty much the same thing except not.

I think you're more likely to die from the supplements, actually.

Shouldn't my posts come with a disclaimer? Like, "heed at yer own danger".

That actually sounds like an awesome way to do things, you must get so much accomplished. And you seem to know your shit well enough to be healthy about it.

The only thing I might recommend, although it might get expensive, is add some 5htp in there once and while to keep your serotonin up.

Yeah its insane the amount you can get done on speed. The years only started and I already know enough to pass half of the christmas exams in college.

The bastards made it prescription only in my country. You can get tryptophan though. I think its dopamine I need to be replenishing though cuz on the 2nd day I usually get real drowsy and redosing makes the drowsiness worse. I'm guessing thats a symptom of dopamine depletion.

Dude, stop now. I hope you aren't too young. Doing that much speed and staying up all night will affect you negatively in the long run. And i mean the LONG run. I abused speed alot when i was younger, now i am a totally different person. It dulls your emotions dude, which might seem good now but its not good when you try to socialize later in life..theres alot of other side effects i have from amphetamine use that i don't want to get into.

Its just not really smart to be using amps that often if you like your brain how it is. Itll screw things up if you keep using, trust me. Its not natural to be tweaking your dopamine system all the time like that.

Default I want to change my sleeping patterns

Howdy. For the last four years or so, I have been a relatively nocturnal creature. Generally I have been going to sleep around 1-6am, and waking around 11am-3pm. I have decided that I would like to give "normacy" a go, in terms of my sleeping paterns. You know, like sleeping before midnight and waking before 9am. I woke up at 3:30 pm today, and I was just like "what the fuck, this is too late". See I was sleeping 6am-3pm in the holidays, now I am trying to adopt an early to rise sleeping pattern, except my mind is locked in the paradigm of nocturnality.

Thoughts/experiences?

I know how you feel, except I tend to change my sleeping pattern at least once a week. Part of the joys of being a shift worker. As you might imagine, I don't always have the best of luck with going off to sleep, so I tend to use a sleep aid of some kind most of the time. Without enough sleep I find I just can't function effectively, so it's pretty important to me.

That being said you really shouldn't be relying on 'medication' of any kind to get to sleep. There's plenty of ways to help you feel like going to bed, a common one being only using your bed as somewhere to sleep, nothing more.

Luckily for you, you only want to change your sleeping pattern once to something I presume would be long term. Just stay awake until you go to bed at a time that even if you do sleep for 12 hours from being tired, you'll still wake up before 9am. Simple.

I think I would stay up for an entire day and then go to sleep at the desired time with an alarm set for the time you want to wake up. Sort of like a reboot.

I sleep for 5 hours, then awake for 6, then sleep for 5, then awake for 6.

I like it.

It eliminates the boring afternoon part of the day.

Fuck I said 24 hours, I meant 36. Say I wake up at 9AM, I'll go to bed at 9PM the next night and sleep 12 hours.

Just believing you're doing something thats fucking up your brain chemistry will cause this change to happen over time. I'm gonna switch to opioids though. They work way better for studying but I can sleep on them. Amps are good for working and doing repetitive tasks.

I did this on monday, two days ago. I awoke at 3:00 pm sunday. Then I went to sleep 30 hours later at 11:00 pm monday. However, last night I went to sleep at 4am, and awoke at 3:30pm; slipping back into the old routine.

Well, it's hardly deniable that:

a) Most species are diurnal, as opposed to nocturnal. When I say normacy, I mean regularity, regular means how things generally happen.

b) In modern society, there is a time-table, 9-5, seven days a week, 365 days a year. I am not saying this is the bona-fide Absolute Truth way of life. I am saying it is regular and for people engaged in this, a sense of normacy.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------
Actually part of the reason I am wanting to change my sleeping patterns is because I wish to travel in due time. A 3pm-4am waking life is not as suitable as a 9pm-6am waking life, in terms of travel in the context of "natural living".

It's gonna catch up with you long term, even when someone only gets 4 hours of sleep if he needs 8,sleep is like a bank. The next day he might sleep 10 hrs but he still short 2 hrs and if he sleeps normally it takes 2-3 days to make up for the lost amount of sleep lost. Socializing might not matter to u but it probably will dull you in general,a lot of it might be subtle that u don't really notice at 1st.

Some people need less sleep than others. I'm definitely not one of them though. Nikola Tesla only slept about 3 hours a night. He'd fall asleep a few times a day though so it was obviously polyphasic sleeping he was doing. Opioids are better for me in every way so I wanna start taking them instead of amps. I have a prescription for pure dexedrine though, it'll be hard to compete with that when I switch to opioids. The pills you get on the streets these days are never what they're supposed to be.

OP--harmful effects? Well, at the least you are totally fucking up your circadian rhythms, shorting yourself on REM sleep, and putting undue stresss on your cardio-pulmonary system, thus putting yourself at risk for a heart attack or stroke..

Default i hope this works - changing my sleep schedule

after a year of working evening shifts and regularly going to sleep around 4am every night and waking up at noon i am pretty used to this arrangement. now im back in university and i have tons of 8am classes. so after oversleeping once again (got up at 6pm today) i'm going to stay up the whole night and go to sleep tomorrow at 10 pm, so that i can hopefully wake up on time the next day, resetting the cycle.

any reasons why this might not work? i'm sure people do this all the time travelling across timezones, right?

It might work or you might be so tired that you sleep through the amount of time you have. Get an alarm clock, they work.

i hope it works better for you than for me....my issue is that i've been nocturnal pretty much by choice my entire life, and if i don't keep a tight clamp on it, the time i fall asleep jsut drifts later and later...as is i'm lucky to be down by 4:30.

every time i try to reboot it helps for a day. then i'm back at it the next night.

This is a tough one. I prefer nocturnal living myself... the population density at night is so much nicer. It's awesome to be able to go out and do your errands with almost no traffic. That said, it is very difficult to get back on society's time after living like that for a long period. The only way I've found to do it is to stay up all day, go to bed about 7pm, set your alarm clock for 6am, and have the discipline to get up when it says to get up, and go to bed when it's time to go to bed.

But it still sucks.

even when i force myself to be a daywalker it's like i'm about 50% at best. Trudging through the day zombified and wishing for death. Then the sun goes down and i wake up...then it's 5 in de morning again.....

This was so much easier when i was a tweeker, and it was always 100 o clock!

for weeks...

then an occasional sleep long enough to not know if it was day or night or which it might be..hmm, sorry...sidetracked.
what were we talking about?

If you're going to change your circadian rhythm that quickly, you should start with your eating schedule. Quit eating during the 12-16 hour period BEFORE you wanna be awake. Once you start eating again, your internal clock should "reset" as though it is the start of a new day. Hopefully your body will consider the time you break your fast as your new "morning."

Hope this helps, post updates.

i ended being too tired to stay up the whole night, forgot to mention that i drank a fifth of gin the night before i overslept, so i was very badly hungover. went to bed at 12 and lay awake until 6am but managed to get up at noon. tonight im going to smoke some weed to knock me out and hopefully i'll manage to sleep earlier today and wake up at 9 for my 10am class, and then tomorrow ill do the same and hopefully ill wake up in time for my 830 class on friday. the weekend is going to be tough since i almost always sleep in until late afternoon.

Start by going to bed an hour earlier than you're used to. If it'll be difficult to fall asleep then try it again the next day but tire yourself out by excersizing.

I heard staying up for 48 hours will reset your circadian rhythm. I don't know.

I'd try to incorporate exercise as a tool for tiring yourself out, or energizing yourself, depending on how it affects you.

Being a student in summer, my sleeping routine has gotten pretty shit lately (6am-5pm); but I'm back at uni in two days so I've had to change it sharpish.

It was too late to gradually wean myself earlier, so I just went decided to go it full throttle. I didn't sleep at all last night, so I can fall asleep at like 9pm tonight (just under 4 hours away) and wake up at 8am, then get up around that on a regular basis.

Is this going to work, or am I going to have to keep going with ridiculous challenges? I'm only staying awake now on fucking coffee, and I almost never have fucking caffeine so it's shit.

btw, being entirely unused to missing my sleep for anything longer than 24 hours- it's given me some weird mood swings.
