Default Need some recommendations for a motherboard and CPU.

As the title says.
I have not been keeping up with the latest in computer tech and could really use some recommendations.
My budget is about $300 for both the motherboard and CPU. I want to go with intel's I series.

If you have a low budget you should really go with the AMD Phenom II series.

I have that same motherboard

hastily taken shitty cellphone pic to proof it. That box is beat up.

You really can't beat it if you're building on a budget. The processor is good, too. don't know about the Videocard, but ATI typically gives you move bang for the buck. Everything on the motherboard is a tight fit, but I was able to get a ATI 5830 on there in a Antec 300 case with almost no room to spare. It fit, though. Sorry for the wait. I was sure I was going to be flamed for suggesting AMD.

Purchased. That motherboard can bring my 955 to a 965 correct? If so, does it have a AI or Automatic OC option or am i going to have to play with the voltage settings like my old computer?

BTW I have a Phenom II X2 545 3.00 GHz. It's become a little underwhelming as of late, but it still keeps chugging along. For everyday use I wouln't even worry about overclocking it that little bit, and no, you won't notice the small difference in everyday use. As for auto OC I'm not sure. I fucked around with it for a bit early on and i think you're going to have to play with the voltage.

That video card kicks a lot of ass. Get the MSI GTX 460 1GB HAWK.. it has dual fans and a desh' heatsink. Core clock is pretty high on it too stock! you can always push it a little more with afterburner..

Kansas, which ram are you using? Thanks.

I ended up buying the AMD 955 since reviews generally agree the 965 does not have a significant improvement in gaming over the 955.
I also got one of those all in one water cooling systems by Coolit.
As for the video card I plan on using my 8800GT for now.
I can wait for the price to go down.

Unless something better gets release I plan on purchasing the 460GTX.
Is the Dual fan hawk model noticeably louder than the cyclone model?
The decibel to performance ratio is very important to me.

I'm using 4 gigs of some cheap ass ram that is slowing dying. You get what you pay for.
