As a substitute teacher I unfortunately have to relate the fact that a school employee is not allowed to use force against a kid. The most you can do is try to stop the fight without hurting anyone. Easy to get caught in bullshit red tape. However, if that was me driving that bus I would have stopped them, told the punks I wasn't moving the bus unless they sat down and shut up, and had the kid getting his ass kicked sit next to/behind me.

When I was living at the dorms downtown, a few of my friends had taken a bunch of xanax and we all went outside to smoke cigars for whatever reason. After a brief deliberation, they agree to the terms of the duel, fist style. The Black team sends forth their tallest competitor, for the reach advantage over our short, squat companion. Nobody is quite sure if it's started yet or not.

Suddenly, the large, brown fast is swinging sideways through the air, sailing over our fighter's head, and a tan fist goes into the extrusive, thick jaw. In the blink of an eye, the other six black males appeared at their fighter's side and started swinging. Of the four others of our team present, two of us took action. This is my first time striking another person with serious intention to harm them, I am nervous, but adrenaline takes over. In the blurred edges of my vision, I can see my pulse pounding, blood rushing through my body, muscles tightening as I hurtle toward the battle.

Pretty wild how far we've come. Back in the late 60's and early 70's when I went to school, corporal punishment was still alive and kicking, and even accepted by the wide majority. If you got out of line at school, any one of your teachers could simply knock you right in the head, or drag you by the hair into the mop room and boot your ass in at will, kick you in the stomach, slap you in the back of the head whenever they felt like it, take a long wooden ruler they had there and beat you with it... all kinds of shit. The principal, too, he was the worst one in my school... he'd grab you with a handful of hair unexpectedly just as you walked by him in the hallway.. drag you all the way down to the office kicking you and yelling spittle in your face. Fun stuff. Then when you got home your Dad would beat the shit out of you, too, and that wasn't against the law either.
