Default Selling hot items

So I am writing this one book. One of my characters in this novel needs to know where she can sell her stolen items. To make this novel realistic, where should these items be exchanged for cash? These items are mostly Gps, ipods, radar detectors, sirius radios, and the like.

Is it true pawn shops are a bad place to sell things now? Do they require identification and shit?

Thanks to all that post helpful tips.

I've known this one girl who wanted to sell her jeans on ebay, but nobody was bidding.

Now, the girl looked quite good, so I then told her to take a hot pic of herself wearing the jeans, and say something like "The only thing I'm wearing is these jeans, and I mean it!", and then see hundreds of Japanese businessmen trying to outbid each other.

Well, she didn't follow my advice.

Street dealers in NY will buy anything. (the black ones of course). One from the islands, preferably, because they send them back to say, Jamaica where they're sold for a profit by the dealer's family, friends, or gang. Most American niggers will rip you off, while most Jamaican niggers will deal straight with you. Let him know there's a lot more where that came from, and if he meets your price, you'll deal only with him. That hooks them like you wouldn't believe, they'll go out of their way to accomodate you, especially when you move lots of shit.

this is a brilliant idea, it has crossed my mind before. Just offer to ship worldwide and make sure you are charging enough for shipping.

Has anyone actually tried it? Most girls would probably get a kick out of being the center of attention.

i know certain gps devices have a protection system, that if they are stolen, and you turn it on at your house, the location of your house will be reveiled to the authorities. i know of a person who stole a very rich mans laptop, when she brought it home, and turned it on, her location was given off, and a raid came a few days later. and all of those things have serial numbers and can be tracked, so selling them on the internet is a big NO-NO. You got some hot property? the best way to sell it is to people you already know, friends of friends, or people in the street. pawnshops are known for buying stolen material, and might be a bad idea.

To everyone wanting items, I am writing a novel! I don't sell stolen items because that would illegal. And if I was a criminal I wouldn't sell items on a forum watched by law enforcement.

I have heard of that GPS protection(Lojack type stuff) on laptops, but not on other electronics. Can anyone confirm there is a way to track gps devices?

And in my county, selling illegal items to pawnshop because they have a detective that searches the local shops for hot items.

i know these gps devices are in other items
some people say that they are in ipods(maybe you could work that in your novel by showing how your character got caught)and in some of the more expensive cell phones but i dont know for sure.

some other people say that when you plug the stolen ipod in it to your computer records your ip address and sends it to apple
sounds too much like a conspiracy to me though so i wouldn't believe it.

Gumtree/craigslist, and classified ads in the newspaper, just don't use your own house.

Garage and car boot sales as well. Be careful if all the shit you stole was local.

Sell to your friends as well, if you have any that is.

I agree with this guy^. We should have a Stolen Goods For Sale section on Zoklet. But, then again, we would probably rip each other off.

Not stolen goods because that would be bad and organizing criminal activity.
Just a "classified ads" section
