Christianity began with a group of followers ("disciples") who followed Jesus (who was Jewish). After his death his popularity increased and the movement gained followers.
The Jewish "bible", the Torah, was written in Hebrew and many later translations in Greek and Latin followed. It is also known as the "Five books of Moses" and is the first five parts of the Christian bible. They were written hundreds of years before Jesus, and most are copies of older and never found documents, so dating the "original" is close to impossible.
The first "country" to adapt Christianity was the Roman Empire. During in the final campaign of Emperor Constantin, the story says he had a dream (or vision) before the Battle of Chrysopolis. In the dream he conqoured and won under the "sign of Christ". So he swore to make Christianity the state religion of the Roman Empire if he won. When it came to battle his army carried crosses as banners and they did indeed win. After that Constantin changed the state religion and also renamed the ancient city of Byzantium to Constantinople and it became the new center for his empire and religion (in 324 AD).

Re: were was christianity
Ok the jews throughout history were nomadic people after getting kicked out of their homes and enslaved by egyptions. Between then and hundreds of years laters the Romans came and conquered everyone but allowed the jews to keep their jewish bible "The torah".
Then Jesus came and died, and his disciples went each different direction and told people about God taking the form of a man. And they all wrote a piece of the bible, the new testimate "Christian bible" is many perspectives of the same events plus a little more.
Anyways word broke out about Jesus and just like high school, rumors and storys spread out, so much the Romans had to disgard their gods and adapt christianity because they feared their empire would fall apart. Thus createing the Roman Catholic Church, which broke off many more times since.

Well, technically your right; the Armenians did it about 40 years before, but shortly after they became a client state of the Roman Empire and after that of the Persians, so I didnīt really think of them as an independent country.

Roman empire certainly popularized, but was it the first nation to experience Christianity? The obvious answer seems to be no, twas Israel.

Experience mayby, but not adapt. Israel didnīt adapt Christianity as a religion until modern times and still have Judaism as state religion.

Okay. Your talking about a Christianity being the official religion of a nation-state. I am talking about the presence of Christianity in a geographical area; whether that be official, unofficial, persecuted, adored, underground or what have you.
