I've wondered about the toxo. I've heard about it for years, but it always seems to be passive research. I think (y'know how shit is when you don't keep notes: all you hear/read bleeds through into each other) it was toxo that a researcher was talking about when she said it would be unethical to infect people with it.
All people want to do is cover their sweet assholes from lawsuits these days!
No doubt she was referring to injecting people with the organism. Though any dummy would see that getting volunteers with no toxo antibodies in their blood and then having them live with infected cats gets around that easily.
I wonder (as I only see news reports of studies) that the studies that relate schizophrenia to toxo infection, if there have been studies relating mental health to getting rid of a toxo infection?
I've looked a little on line about toxo and usually I've found words about toxo antibodies, but nothing about whether that still means the organism is still in the body other than that the infection is self-limiting but evasive of the immune system.
So: does the body get rid of it until reinfected or is it more like malaria? Does it leave completely or does it only go into remission for a time? Have rats been cleared of their toxo infections and does their behavior return to baseline or are there permanent changes in behavior?
I'd like to know: wouldn't you? I had cats before, should I be worried? Shouldn't research look into whether people and their cats should be on some kind of drug regime or not? What most people are told is that pregnant women should be careful around cat feces: is this the extent of it?
Is. There. More?
One thing I have been thinking about lately is taking wormwood tea regularly and looking into other herbal methods of troubling parasites. Toxo isn't the only weird infection: there are a zillion wormy things that may reside in a person.
If you don't have dramatic symptoms most docs are likely to pat you on the head and kick you out without any tests, maybe with an antidepressant med or with nothing but the *kick*.
