Giant flint bomb
So I've been saving up dead lighters for about a year now and have collected about 60 of them. I've started tying them all together in one big flint bomb:
I've got about 26 of them all done up but here's my idea once I'm done; Get the flint bomb to hang about three inches off the ground, get it red hot with multiple torches and swing a golf club at it wearing face protection and heavy clothing.
My question is should I be worried while heating up a giant pile of flint, like whether it will blow up before it get's hit? And should I be worried about molten flint burning me or setting me on fire?

it only works if you saturate your clothing in gasoline first.

Re: Giant flint bomb
FAR easier way to get flint (and another useful pyrotechnic material): Magnesium fire starters found with camping supplies at stores. They have a nice thick bar of flint on the top that can be knocked off easily with a nail/chisel and a hammer.
Edit: Just watched the video... I started a mini-fire in my garage doing the exact same thing when I was in the 6th grade (except I used a blow torch to heat it).
Oh, and don't smash one of those with a hammer unless you want sparks EVERYWHERE.

Re: Giant flint bomb
Swinging an object at anything that can/will explode is fucking stupid. Most because you're going to be within swinging distance of something that can/will explode when hit.
On second thought, go ahead and give it a try.

Do eet an post the vid. I always wanted to try this. BTW, in lighters, it's not actually flint, it's called mischmetal.

Re: Giant flint bomb
Will up date post when I record it even though I'm still sketched out a bit but the golf club should get the debris away from as long as it doesn't actually 'explode'. Someone was warning me about heating that many up with three blow torches might make it explode.

Re: Giant flint bomb
If you actually go through with this, you HAVE to film the whole thing, including the setup and heating of the flints (Technically ferrocerium). There's so much that could go wrong here, and if you manage to blind or immolate yourself, I don't think anyone here wants to miss it.

Again when I was much younger: The "flint" never exploded from just heating it with a blowtorch, but it would just kinda decompose with a flash a light here and there.
But Ive had a large of Mg metal explode violently and blindingly by heating it near ignition, then "tempered" it in some cold water, then heated it again with a blowtorch. Then BAM, Im blind, its raining glowing molten metal, and I'm deaf/ears ringing. Im not sure if that was an isolated incident, Mg usually just burns bright white, but the tempering was a bad idea either way. But in my defense, yeah I was young and doing dangerous shit, but I did have eye protection and Plexiglas "shield" (prabably saved my eyesight from being gouged/burned out by white burning Mg shrapnel).

Re: Giant flint bomb
I also have done some stupid shit with magnesium. A friend and I lit (with a blowtorch) a ~1lb block and then threw a rock onto it. It exploded violently, but fortunately we were okay. We would just wait until night time sometimes and light a big brick of it on fire in one corner. It would burn for a long time and light up the whole treeline.

Re: Giant flint bomb
I still have about 30 more flints to add to it, i'll try to get Poast to take a pic and post the work in progress. the reason why i didn't make it all in one night is the twisting of the wires started to cut up my finger tips, (guitar calluses and all), It's gonna be a while but I will film it. Probably be wearing a trench coat, ski mask and hopefull a welders mask or some shit but no one has answered my question of wether the act of heating it will cause it to explode. When I ignited about 15 of them and threw it on a piece of linoleum, it blew off but there were still a couple of flints that just flew around that were red hot.
Heating one with 50+ flints, the outside ones will get red hot and the inside one's will only be warm and the explosion will get them red hot but only send them flying.
Don't know if I already said this but I'm thinking of having three torches set up and aimed at the flint hanging from some wire. the torches attached to some rope so they can just be pulled away when it's ready. As opposed to two or three people just sitting there with dumb faces watching it get hotter.....
So good to hear it!

Re: Giant flint bomb
I figured you knew bruh bruh. I see you so little that when I actually do see you I don't remember what I've told you as I say everything to everyone atleast twice thinking I haven't told them.
Also, Tyler from work is a fucking asshole and I wanted to punch him in his face today for being an asshat and him and PJ both not helping with the floors the Tyler throws a bunch of shit in my micro waves cause, "He found his soda on the floor." I asked Danielle if I could leave before i punched someone.
Fuck work pisses me off. Busting my ass so someone else can get rich and I don't even get tips. Yeah, I'm kinda drunk. But not as drunk as I'mma gonna get.

That's crazy, dude. I know at some point I poured a crucible of molten Mg onto concrete, and it did something like this. BTW, molten Mg is cool in and of itself. the autoignition on the surface looks so badass. The time when I cam closest to being blinded was when I was fucking around with thermite. For lack of Mg ribbon, I heated the pile of thermite up to 1500C (or whatever the adiabatic temp of propane is), and when it lit, it all went at once. Though thermite is normally slow as shit, at 1500C it's basically a flash powder that shoots molten iron everywhere. Not sure how it missed me, but I'm still here, so....

Sorry, dude. When I found out Tyler was closing and I was asked to cover for PJ, I just flat-out said "no."
I need more hours, but not so bad that I'll babysit Tyler. That guy's such a pussy.
