With you there... if you think about it, the Indiana Jones world has a real holy grail, the arc and other super natural items. Aliens wouldn't be that much of a stretch, yet I think it was the wrong route for them to go down.

What really fucks me off is when that old myth that 'individual ants are stupid but together they are smart' is perpetuated. It's bollocks. Individual ants are really very intelligent, for invertebrates. There's no such thing as a 'hive intelligence', except in science fiction.

I didn't take it meant it that way you're interpreting it; I just took it for "they all work together for one goal".

That's just my opinion, though.

Yeah but that still implies that the ants have a collective consciousness, or some kind of collective plan. They don't, it's just highly evolved instinct. They might be smart little bugs, but they aren't smart enough to build something so complicated. If they were, they'd be the third-smartest species on the planet (after humans and termites, who build even more impressive homes).
