Default Puppy Raising Tips

Just got a new puppy, any tips on how to train him? Specifically housebreaking tips. He's 8 weeks old, he kinda gets the idea of pissing outside but he prefers to shit under the coffee table. How do I stop this shit (literally)

Puppies like to bite pretty hard until they reach a certain age. So you may have to wait a few months before letting it lick peanut butter off your cock.

Thread picked up.

And for some of the "less than helpful posters" that might come in here, from now on it'd be a good idea to only post helpful tips n' tricks, or not post at all...

serious replies only now since this is now in FF&GL. I'll move all other 'beat it/fuck it/one word responses' to the trashcan

learn to read your puppy’s body language. you'll be able to spot when he's about to go. if he's only going to the one spot it should be pretty easy to tell. when he heads to the coffee table, pick him up and take him outside.

some puppies grasp the concept of shitting outside quickly, for others it takes a lot of patience. DON'T scold him for going in the house, as he doesnt know any better right now and all it will do is confuse and frighten him. if he starts shitting inside AFTER going outside a few times, then it's time to start telling him off. praise him each time he goes outside

good luck!

Immediately clean up the shit in the house but leave some of the shit outside. The puppy will smell the shit outside and learn that that is the designated shitting area.

You can use special odor removing stuff you can find at the pet shop or just use bleach if your floors can take it. Anything that will remove the smell of shit from the place you don't want the puppy to shit in.

In a few more months the puppy will start chewing on stuff. This is where you take out the bitter apple spray and spray anything that is a potential chewing hazard. Shoes, electrical cords, and the corners of stairs are some things you should spray. You can buy chew toys at the pet store and praise the puppy whenever he uses it. Dried pig ears seems to be the favorite of any puppy.

If your puppy keeps whining when you aren't around you can either sleep in his pen at night or give him a shirt that smells like you. The smelly shirt will calm him.

This. Negative and positive reinforcement are the keys to training dogs. Next time he shits under the table just look vaguely threatening and say in an angry (but not overly angry, you don't want a timid dog) voice: 'BAD! NO! BAD! BAD DOG!' etc. When he does it properly outside, say the opposite and give him a biscuit. Within a few weeks he'll get the idea and that will last for life.

Your brain is showing.

Think about discipline very carefully, they are intelligent, but not as smart as you. A rogue disciplining could result in him looking at you funny for the rest of his life, never fully trusting you like he did when he was shining eyed puppy.

He'll also never be as emotionally open, and he'll probably develop a nasty bad habit (chewing/eating) and eventually he'll become depressed because he's an animal that lives in a house and eats the same thing every day.

Negative re-inforcement, beating, sharp pains, and shouting should all be used to establish dominance and superiority. It's necessary for the dogs pack-mentality to have a dominant alpha male figure.

You're probably just zokleting but beating and sharp pains aren't at all necessary. Like I said just say stuff like "bad! bad dog! no! bad!" and look kind of imposing. That really will be enough. If you're the one who gets food for the dog, it already knows you're the alpha male and hence will pay attention when you say "bad" and "no". Beating a dog will just turn it into an aggressive asshole that will never stop barking and biting small children.

ate, let's just make everybody's life easier by not pretending you know anything at all about the real world, k? I agree being abusive towards dogs is wrong but yelling at a dog for doing something bad is EXACTLY what you're supposed to do. Seriously, "he'll never be emotionally open"? What did your parents do to you

Ok, I don't know anything about the real world.

Now what? Yes, if you force a dog to fear humans he will never be open on human packed Earth. My parents did what yours did only I understood it.

What else needs clarifying?

You can't be nice to a dog until they understand their place. It sounds really fucked up and mean but that's how they understand. They have to earn their food, your attention, everything if they want it. They don't understand a simple no unfortunately but they do understand a low angry voice and not getting loving attention. Luckily they understand a nice happy voice too as long as you act mad/ignore them at the right time and give praise and love at the right time you'll be ok

Yep, they'll try to make you their bitch, eat your food and piss on the most "you" smelliest thing around.

I agree with this post. It's about the dynamics. Just keep a balance and you are acting in a way that they will surely understand.

Feed yourself and care about yourself and your pet will inherit that.

Well, they are animals, and animals do get quite dirty (Ie: shitty) when they are left outside all the time.

But of course, we are blending consciousness with our "pets" (IE: slaves) and so they whine and want to come inside and play, rest, or sleep with us.

So it kind of doesn't make sense there, but I suppose somewhere along the line way back as we were figuring out what we were going to do on Earth, the two species became good friends in their ability to complement each others nature and necessities.

Whenever the doorbell rings make loads of noise, knock shit over, chase the dog around screaming. That way when the door rings in the future the dog will just run somewhere quiet and won't do that shit where they're all running around barking.

Become a dog for a week, eat with the dog, behave like the dog, that way it will trust you as one of its own.

Good luck man

I'm a sucker when it comes to dogs being a lesser animal to humans. I just think it's unfair that dogs have to be penned up or tied to a stake when cats are allowed to roam free wherever they want. I guess that's why dogs hate cats so much.

I'd only have a dog if I owned some sort of land or a decent sized garden, and I wouldn't want to have to leave it alone while I was at work either. I imagine being stuck inside alone all day would be a pretty miserable existence for a dog. If I had all day free and could provide the dog with a decent lifestyle I'd probably get a Weimaraner, and I'd call it 'Sheriff' like Larry David's racist dog.

I agree completely. I only have about half an acre for my German Shepherd but he seems happy with the amount of land to roam in. I take him on 10 mile runs with my bike so he can smell and mark things. I really wanna start traveling the country to show him how big the world really is.

Get some of the training pads & keep moving them closer to the door until there outside, clean up any piss or shit straight away and use disinfectant to get rid of the smell, if they can smell shit or piss there they'll think it's okay to do it there.

Also watch out for signs that he/she needs the toliet i.e going into the corner or turning in circles on the spot & put the dog outside and praise when it goes outside, don't scold the dog for going inside as you will just scare her/him & it will just run off and shit/piss somewhere you can't see in the house.

Awww

What's the breed there?

Dunno if pissing on the puppy pad was a good idea, he might think from the smell that it's not his territory... so that could be really counter productive.
