Default Does Gamecube emulation actually work?

By 'work' I mean allow you to play games from start to finish on a mid-range system. I don't wanna have to upgrade 'cause that would just be pointless given that a GC costs about £15. Does it work with Metroid/RE series' or just PD games and demos?

I've looked into it and Dolphin looks to be the best emulator but even emulation forums won't give an absolute answer as to whether or not it works. I would try it for myself but since I'm on crappy 15GB/month mobile internet I don't want to take the plunge and download a 1GB ISO just to find that it's completely useless. Thanks.

Ive used dolphin before. I just played super mario sunshine and windwaker. Theyre both pretty buggy.

Im running:
i7 @ 3.2Ghz
gtx 285
6gigs ram

Thats all you really need to know i think and yeah it was pretty choppy. I tried fucking with the settings and couldn't really get them to look better. Windwaker ran smoother than sunshine, but graphically it was just a blur and kinda sucked. Sunshine wasnt really too sunny. It wont hurt to give it a try, it is free.

It all depends on what version of dolphin you are using. Each new version generally makes games run better. I use it to play wii games. I have like... Soul Calibur 2 and it plays fine on a 2.4 core 2 duo.

It depends on the game. Some games don't work at all, while others work great. I play Super Smash Bros Melee with Dolphin and it's not perfect but very playable.

Here's where you can look at compatibility lists:
