I'm infuriated/extreme distress from sound.

I need help/analysis.

Basically every time I hear a TV I'm not watching, like that distant TV distortion noise I'm absolutely pissed off, now when this occurs throughout my house over a lengthy time I'm so angry I end up punching holes in my wall.

I also cannot stand gum chewers or anyone eating, mouth closed or not.

I've traced this back to when I was younger, constantly being kept awake by the TV or people talking on the phone, which is why I hate listening to others phone calls especially boring ones.

and the eating thing is from being annoyed on purpose by various people, intentionally pissing me off without restraint by chewing in my face.

I ride in the car and I'm extremely stressed by someone chewing gum, I have to look away but I can still feel there going it which makes me go nuts.

The TV thing can be generalized to most sounds, like music coming from the room next to me.

Clearly Pavlov's conditioning right?

What are your opinions, besides I'm bat shit crazy.

This is seriously affecting my quality of life seeing as I can't escape sounds, nor can I tell anyone to stop them because no one else sees these normal, everyday things as irritating.

I would see somebody. You've said yourself that it's become seriously debilitating for you. I would not like to see the repair bill.

Chances are, you'd do well to receive some cognitive therapy.

I wouldn't take any advice from anybody here other than "see a professional."

You have to try to ignore it and restrain yourself.

I know it's extremely hard, but the longer you hold out, the easier it will be, and the less it will affect you.

I had the same thing for a while, I bought ear plugs. And a few weeks later, I still have and use my earplugs VERY frequently, but I can stand sounds a little better now.

What basis do you have for claiming it to be the answer? I mean, studies have shown that willpower is basically a constant and varies little as one ages.

The worst thing ever is loud fucking phone calls. LOUD FUCKING PHONE CALLS. In a quiet place! Goddamnit. A WOMAN YAPPING AWAY ON HER FUCKING PHONE FOR 2 HOURS STRAIGHT INCITING NOTHING BUT ABHORRENCE IN YOU. I DON'T WANT TO HEAR THEM SHITTING ON WITH THEIR FALLACIES AND GOSSIP. Dammit.
