Default Personality Disorders

Not quite sure if it's the right forum for this, but I remember making a couple of these back in totse. For some reason I think I'm more fucked up than the last time I remember. Of course, most of these online tests are rather biased and innaccurate, maybe.

Schizoid: High
Schizotypal: Very High
Antisocial: High
Borderline: Low
Histrionic: Moderate
Narcissistic: Very High

URL of the test: http://www.4degreez.com/misc/persona...sorder_test.mv

Those were my results. So I'm a narcissistic bastard, eh?

Before taking this test I would've deemed myself a socio-narcissist. My emotions are usually different is given situations and I usually act for my own interests. I'm not clinically obsessive compulsive, however am a big fan of order and cleanliness. I don't think I'm too paranoid, well where it counts I guess.

Default Re: Personality Disorders

These tests are bullshit on so many levels. This should really be in Bat Country/Half Baked.

None of you have any of these disorders (at least not on the basis of this "test"). To have a disorder you would need to meet the precise criteria specified in the DSM. Let's look at an OCD obsession, the criteria for which is:
(1) recurrent and persistent thoughts, impulses, or images that are experienced at some time during the disturbance, as intrusive and inappropriate and that cause marked anxiety or distress

(2) the thoughts, impulses, or images are not simply excessive worries about real-life problems

(3) the person attempts to ignore or suppress such thoughts, impulses, or images, or to neutralize them with some other thought or action

(4) the person recognizes that the obsessional thoughts, impulses, or images are a product of his or her own mind (not imposed from without as in thought insertion)

In addition to this, you need to meet 4 other criteria, such as "recognizing that the obsession is unreasonable", and that the obsessions cause marked distress.

These online questionaires asks ridiculous, general questions like "Do you ever have obsessions or compulsions". Everyone has obsessions and compulsions, thus the question provides no real information. The main problem is that this site tries to define the disorders by sets of symptoms, but many of these personality disorders are just maladaptive extensions of NORMAL behavior. You can easily have a "symptom" of the disorder, and still be a completely normal person. Instead of posing general questions with yes or no answers, a test that wasn't crap would pose many specific questions evaluating the same characteristics, with a range of possible answers from say "Strongly Disagree" to "Strongly Agree".

So: Bullshit.

Default Re: Personality Disorders

Those tests (as mentioned) dont actually diagnose any medical condition, but its pretty fuckin obvious you wouldnt get any medical answers from a test.

you answer questions of behaviours typical of the mentally ill, and answer a wide variety of these kind of questions, you can get a general idea of whether or not you may actually have these conditions.

yes, indeed bullshit if you are stupid enough to actually believe you are going to diagnosed with conditions, by answering a bunch of questions on an online quiz, but im pretty sure most of these people took this quiz for exactly what it was.

a godamn quiz.

and if you actually did the quiz u`d realize the questions are far from general, for example

Do you exaggerate the potential difficulties of new situations in order to convince yourself not to try out new activities?

how is that general, that seems pretty damn specific too me.

the quiz just collects information about you in that manner, and you are graded high or low based on that. i dont see how this is `bullshit` it seems like a fairly sound process to me.

in conclusion, a direct quote from their website

Quote:
It is not meant to be used as a diagnostic tool, but rather as a tool to give you insight into a potential disorder that may be having a negative impact on your life. If you believe you may be suffering from a personality disorder or any other disorder, you should ask your family doctor to recommend a therapist in your area to meet with.

Default Re: Personality Disorders

The test is not an appropriate tool for deciding if you are "at risk" for something. The test would probably provide some accurate results for people with disorders, but when it gives false positives to normal people, it's crap. Even if you are indeed just curious about general personality traits, they provide a very weak analysis at best.

Why? The questions are too general and too sparse, and the answer choices are only Yes or No. When your answer choice for most of the questions can switch completely depending on what happens to be fresh in your mind, the test has poor validity. For the test to be of any use at all, it should have many specific questions assessing the same trait, and it should have a scale of answers (usually ranging from 1 to 10, strong disagreement to strong agreement).

For instance, you don't ask "Do you feel uncomfortable in social situations?" The question forces a person to consider whatever happens to come to mind, generalize it, and then come to a decision. A good test would ask questions that allow for the test to objectively come to a decision. You ask specific questions about how someone felt at a party, in the workplace, among friends, etc.

The test tells you, for all practical purposes, nothing.

EDIT: I'm not trying to be a COMPLETE dick, guys, but I'm just trying to let you know that these tests aren't any good. If you want to try to judge your psychological state in comparison to these disorders, I'd recommend reading the offical criteria for the disorders. If you want insight into personality, I'd recommend reading a book on personality theories. These tests, however, are just a kind of cutesy thing that lets you say "Lol, I sort of have a disorder."

I'm well aware of that. Just look at my results. Schizo? Paranoid? I've never been to a psychologist in my entire life and probably never will as I'd make him go nuts for the lulz. Either way, there's no apparent reason why I should have any "disorder". I'm a normal, kinda awkward maybe but in the cool sense manchild that's about to get a college degree, has social life, has loving, caring family and has gotten into fights/trouble not so many times. Maybe I am narcissistic at time, but hey, isn't everyone else as well? If you don't love yourself then who will?

I also agree with the "Very strong or weak" multiple option tests but I couldn't be arsed to look for one of those.

Paranoid, narcissistic and avoidant? Yeah, that sounds about right. I'm certainly not histrionic though. Or schizotypal. Schizoid maybe. Definitely antisocial. No way am I borderline, definitely not dependent, and I guess a little teeny bit obsessive-compulsive. Bwah.

Well that was surprising.
/sarcasm.

I've already been diagnosed with Borderline Personality Disorder and am being treated for it on a twice weekly basis through Cognitive Behavioral Therapy.
Histrionic doesn't surprise me in the least.
Dependent, I could sort of see coming due to the questions, but personally wouldn't consider myself at risk of it. A lot of the 'Do you feel you need the approval of your loved ones' type questions are symptoms of BPD too, so I'm only covering what I already know I have

Besides, this test is bullshit. The only thing I would trust to diagnose me is a qualified psychiatrist in a mental institution that has observed me closely with a copy of the DSM-IV in his/her hands.

Paranoid: Very High
Schizoid: Moderate
Schizotypal: Moderate
Antisocial: High
Borderline: Very High
Histrionic: High
Narcissistic: High
Avoidant: Very High
Dependent: Very High
Obsessive-Compulsive: Moderate

I'm already stuck with a Borderline diagnosis. Haven't been doing anything
about it but it's somewhere on my to do list.

All low except the schizotypal one, which was moderate.

Disorders are just crutches anyway.
