Re: For the Metal Gear Solid fans...
MGS4 is the shit, just like all the other metal gears there is replay value and easter eggs all over the game, some of the unlockables you get thru the game kinda suck tho, other than that i say its money worth spent if you get it ^_^

Re: For the Metal Gear Solid fans...
My favorite? Metal Gear 2: Solid Snake.
It started getting REALLY confusing after MGS.

Re: For the Metal Gear Solid fans...
I have played all MGS games apart from MGS3 - never had a PS2.
Metal Gear Solid 1 is the best.
MGS2 is "ok".
MGS4 is horrid. The only good thing about that game were the MGS1 references.

The characters were bad, the plot was bad and made very little sense, the cutscenes are unnecesarily drawn out (many say all MGS games have cutscenes like that, but this is not true, here it felt like they were just taking the piss), gameplay (when you got to play) was rather boring - the only bits I found fun were the boss fights, the soundtrack was unmemorable.
Having replayed MGS1 right after finishing MGS4, I can say the games are not even on the same level.

Re: For the Metal Gear Solid fans...
Metal Gear Solid was unbelievably good. That game (and Crash Bandicoot) are the only reasons I still have my 15-year-old PlayStation.
Anyone remember those Net Yaroze games that you used to get on demo discs? They were awesome. I still want a Net Yaroze.

You have no say until you play MGS3. That's honestly what I hear the majority claim is the best.

I'd love to play it, but I don't feel like buying a PS2 just for one game just yet.

The music, the acting, the gameplay, the story, the grafix. It's all ridiculous. It's the best game I've ever seen or played. I was just playing it a few hours ago thinking to myself "damn this is amazing"

It was a great game, but I did have one complaint about it. The European Extreme, the hardest mode, was nowhere near hard enough. I wished they would have dropped the auto health replenish on Extreme and EE. Pretty much the only time your health would go down on EE is during the boss fights, since you lose the moment a guard spots you. Even with that though, its still one of the, if not, the best game I've played.
Now EE on MSG2, that was a challenge. It just pissed me off, because I thought the hardest thing in the game was towards the end where you were being choked to death by whats his name. You had to tap that button so fast and so long if someone walked in they thought you were having a seizure. I've never been able to do it.

4 is one of the main reasons to get a PS3, 3 is just plain awesome and is what got me into MGS.

The stealth part is what makes it so great. You just gotta be patient to get by. Watch their patterns, use any and all items (the books work great). You really have to depend on them if you dont wanna get caught. Tap walls to get one to break out of a group. You know, pretty much everything you did when you played the last go around (assuming you played it through already), but with alot more emphasis. Those kinna things will help you, but I think patience is the key.
I love the stealth games. It provides so much more depth and stratigizing than any run of the mill fps

Re: For the Metal Gear Solid fans...
For me it breaks down
MGS3 (The End was the best boss I've ever played in a video game. I was throughly blown away)
MGS/MGS: Twin Snakes. (This thread has me thinking about buying the next gamecube I see just so I can play it proper.)
I'd say MGS2 next, but I never finished MGS4 so I can't properly rank them. I did play MGS4 until I got to South America and I saw plenty of flaws by that point. I want to finish it one day, but I'm not dying to pick up the controller again.

Re: For the Metal Gear Solid fans...
I'd love to give Meryl my solid snake, she makes my gear as solid as metal.
(Biggest game in the series is Peace Walker. Controls suck ass because of the PSP factor, but it's the best MGS, hands down, and this coming from a hardcore DS gamer)

Yeah, I thought it was kind of funny no one is considering the PSP games. You're the first to mention them even though there are like 4.

I found Acid and Portable Ops games to be sort of shit, but Peace Walker was super fantastic. All haters clinging to 3 need to nut up and understand that PW is clearly the most superior MGS game

Re: For the Metal Gear Solid fans...
I like the original and 3 the best, closely followed by number 2. Haven't played the PSP ones.
Only played through number 4 once with a friend. It was great, but had very different gameplay from the others so I can understand why some people don't choose it as their favorite. It was still metal gear solid but it was an evolved form. I can't really say without playing it some more.
Anyone else looking froward to mgs rising?

Re: For the Metal Gear Solid fans...
I have the original Metal Gear on NES and a Metal Gear Book from either the 80's or very early 90's.
I spent hours playing it...over years, between the other 10 games we had and the games we rented and borrowed.
I've never played any Solid game besides one that was on a PS2 demo disc.
The one on the Gamecube sounds good though.

Re: For the Metal Gear Solid fans...
In my opinion, MGS3 is the only one that truely matched the original MGS. however, MGS4 was an awesome game and should be played by any fan of the series, if only for a satisfying wrap-up to a story that spans 3 console generations.
Twin Snakes sucked ass. The graphical and gameplay updates were nice, but the newly recorded voice acting was just a shadow of the original.

YES!! Thats my favorite bit in MGS3. It was a game of cat and mouse the whole time. You had to have the patience to search high and low for him, but at the same time, you couldn't let your guard down at all. You'll be in deep shit if you just run around and look for him. So awesome.
I also loved the trick where you could actually kill him by adjusting the time on the ps2. I read it and thought it was bullshit, but it wasn't. That was so crazy, I don't recall a gave ever to have a trick like that.
I also loved the battle with psycho mantis in the first one. I kept getting my ass handed to me, until I realized you had to plug your controller in the second port. I mean what the hell? Who would think to do that? Thats what I loved about MGS - no other game that I recall did that kinna shit

That was cool, I like those touches in the game. I can imagine someone getting killed by him so many times that they forget about the game for a while and then come back to a message that he has died of old age
Got a fright the first time he managed to sneak up behind me. I heard the breathing, turned around, got shot, then he dropped a flashbang and fucked off. Bastard.
Or, there is an opportunity to snipe him in a scene before the fight.
The fight with psycho mantis in MGS1 has some cool unique features as well.
