I only smile when it's sincere. One of the things that bothered me in America was how everyone was constantly smiling! Not because they were always happy which would be fine, but because it was part of their job or something. Fake sincerity is very off putting. True, but putting on the brooding face until a woman notices you isn't a bad idea. The expression is also tricky, though. If it's too sad, you look weak, and if it's to angry, you look psycho. There's a really delicate balance of emotional expressions that combine to yield the target face.
