Sign the petition and share with everyone -- when we reach 1/2 million, it will be personally delivered to world leaders by the global commission.

For 50 years current drug policies have failed everyone, everywhere but public debate is stuck in the mud of fear and misinformation. Everyone, even the UN Office on Drugs and Crime which is responsible for enforcing this approach agrees -- deploying militaries and police to burn drug farms, hunting down traffickers, and imprisoning dealers and addicts – is an expensive mistake. And with massive human cost -- from Afghanistan, to Mexico, to the USA the illegal drug trade is destroying countries around the world, while addiction, overdose deaths, and HIV/AIDS infections continue to rise.

Meanwhile, countries with less-harsh enforcement -- like Switzerland, Portugal, the Netherlands, and Australia -- have not seen the explosion in drug use that proponents of the drug war have darkly predicted. Instead, they have seen significant reductions in drug-related crime, addiction and deaths, and are able to focus squarely on dismantling criminal empires.

Powerful lobbies still stand in the way of change, including military, law enforcement, and prison departments whose budgets are at stake. And politicians fear that voters will throw them out of office if they support alternative approaches, as they will appear weak on law and order. But many former drug Ministers and Heads of State have come out in favour of reform since leaving office, and polls show that citizens across the world know the current approach is a catastrophe. Momentum is gathering towards new improved policies, particularly in regions that are ravaged by the drug trade.

If we can create a worldwide outcry in the next 72 hours to support the bold calls of the Global Commission on Drug Policy, we can overpower the stale excuses for the status quo. Our voices hold the key to change -- Sign the petition and spread the word.

We have a chance to enter the closing chapter of this brutal 'war' that has destroyed millions of lives. Global public opinion will determine if this catastrophic policy is stopped or if politicians shy away from reform. And no you could not do drugs while doing this as it would give reasons for arrest and therefore would diminish the number of people.

half the population already uses illegal drugs often, and 3/4ths have done illegal drugs at one point in their life. even many politicians/senators/congressmen take drugs except they mostly use legal potent rx drugs

They're trying to draw your attention away from the fact that property seizures are a thriving and lucrative business for the government, and they pull in literally billions of dollars a year in unlawful search and seizures. For example, if you get caught with even a roach in your ashtray going across the border, they will gladly seize your vehicle and everything in it, and even before you get a fair trial your property will have already been auctioned off and sold and the money placed into federal coffers. If you get nabbed selling a few grams of cocaine out of your house, and they find out you own the property, they will seize your house, your car in the driveway, your boat out back, and anything else they can skin you for - all under the guise that all that stuff was obtained through the proceeds of selling cocaine. Fucking this. I took Criminal Justice Criminology for almost 3 years before quitting to go into Computers Securities and this a fucking fact. The classes I took taught me everything a Cop is suppose to do in a search, what they are absolutely forbidden to do and what they are allowed to get away with. Probable cause is a load of shit now as its all profiling no matter what the fuck they say.

Hell I even had a Professor that was an ex-Cop teach us that if you lie to get probable cause the worst that happens is you get put on a desk for a month... if they can prove you lied and if its the first caught lie if you "don't lie anymore" your boss can have IA override the lie. Its the reason they ask you to get off of the phone so they don't have an unknown factor that can prove they lied their fucking ass off to get cause.

For instance if they find a college or a high school aged kid driving past midnight on a Thursday or Friday night they are gonna assume you are drunk and when you first slur your words be prepared for a car search from top to bottom to find any evidence. Don't mind if you are scared shitless.... and if you aren't drunk what do you have to hide from a search?
