why nicolas cage is hated so much

ok... no i dont like him a lot. but i never really questioned why he is hated so much.

i dont think hes a great top notch actor. but i also dont think hes a bad actor

only reason why i can think of him being disliked so much is that i could be considerd like a slut of acting

he probably hardly ever rejects rolls. and will play anything that is offerd to him.

soooo enlighten me please. i would like to know why he is hated so much. along with other personal reason why he is hated/disliked.

I don't think he's the worst actor ever, and I think sometimes he can be good when he really tries. But he has no taste when it comes to the kind of projects he takes on, and it's bitten him in the ass because movies like "Knowing" and "Wicker Man" are the best he's going to get. Actually he was in National Treasure, but that was a while ago. And most of the time he's just not the best actor and ends up just walking through some of his roles.

It's hard for me to say that I hate him though, because I actually enjoy watching bad movies for their laugh factor. I guess I like Nicolas Cage the same way I like William Shatner. Though Shatner is more badass.

It's because people are film snobs. Cage has been in some absolutely awesome movies. He's also been in a lot of action movies which haven't received critical praise, which is my guess as to why people would criticize him. I'd generally agree he's either in an awesome movie, or a crap one (from a critics point of view) but he always puts in at the very least an entertaining performance.

I just had a look at Wikipedia to see if there were any outspoken critics of Cage, and it turns out Sean Penn is:

My guess for this is because Cage beat Penn to the Oscar for best actor in 1995. Then, Penn probably saw Cage doing movies like Con Air, Snake Eyes and so on, and spat his dummy out.

I don't think that people necessarily hate Nicholas Cage, it's that they have no respect for him. For ever Raising Arizona, Adaption, and Matchstick Men, there's a Knowing, Ghost Rider, The Wicker Man, Gone in 60 Seconds, Bangkok Dangerous, Drive Angry, and Face Off.

He can be an incredibility powerful and witty, in somewhat neurotic, actor; he just bogs down actual attempts at genuine film-making with his triannual shit-pics.

I don't think he is a very good actor. He is in a lot of movies, but he always seem to play the same character. I like an actor who can actually be someone else. Sometime he can seem a little more energetic, but mostly he's pretty depressing, and that's about it.

An example of someone I think is a good actor? Jeff Bridges. The guy plays a burnout in the Big Lebowski, a corporate villan in Iron Man, and an illiterate gun for hire in True Grit. All very different roles and characters, all delivered excellently imo.

Nicholas Cage is an actor who commits 110%, doesn't censor his choices and doesn't self-direct.

This gives him amazing on screen potential. But you need a director who knows how to use him correctly, dial him down in moments and have the guts to say "Nick, we're not going to use all of your ideas for this scene because some of them don't work."

I'd take an actor like him over someone on the opposite side of the spectrum- an actor who can't commit, overanalyzes, is too controlled and can't show full emotions- Natalie Portman, for example.

She peaked at age 12 in Leon, when she was too old to know any better. Every performance since then has been one note and forced. She doesn't hold a candle to Kate Winslet, Emma Thompson, Meryl Streep, Glenn Close, Catherine Zeta-Jones, Rachel Weisz, Laura Linney, Amanda Seyfried, Amy Adams, Noomi Rapace, Jennifer Lawrence... I could go on. Anyone who can actually do more than whimper or go into heavy breathing to fake emotion.

Unless you disguise it with fancy camera angles, she brings nothing to the screen. She's boring. That's why I named her as Nicholas Cage's opposite.

Megan Fox might not be top notch, but if you compare her Transformers performance with Portman's comparable role in Thor she beat her out.
