I thought it was pretty well known.

Everyone has a blind spot, its there due to the way the eye is built. Different people may have different sized blind spots though. you can create the test on paper then manually adjust the size of the spot with a pen until the spot stops disappearing

One of the coolest things I learned in Perception was how the cones[color receptors] are mostly concentrated in the fovea [corresponds to the center of your vision] and perhiperals tend to be dominated by rods[black/white receptors]. This means a lot of color that you 'see' towards the edges of your field of vision is rendered by your brian from memory/context

also: rods are much better at detecting movement; thus we are much better at detecting movement in our peripheral vision; thus military marksmen are trained to aim their stare off to the side of a target so they can react faster to the tiny flicker of an enemy popping his head over a wall.
