Why is every white guy's last name Smith or Johnson? Actually, the guy that was shot in the picture killed 34 innocent women and children just hours earlier.

Quote:
Immediately after the fall of the city, Japanese troops embarked on a determined search for former soldiers, in which thousands of young men were captured. Many were taken to the Yangtze River, where they were machine-gunned. What was probably the single largest massacre of Chinese troops occurred along the banks of the Yangtze River on December 18 in what is called the Straw String Gorge Massacre. Japanese soldiers took most of the morning tying all of the POWs hands together and in the dusk divided them into 4 columns, and opened fire at them. Unable to escape, the POWs could only scream and thrash in desperation. It took an hour for the sounds of death to stop, and even longer for the Japanese to bayonet each individual. Most were dumped into the Yangtze. It is estimated that at least 57,500 Chinese POWs were killed.

Quote:
Alfred Eisenstaedt of LIFE took the photograph of a sailor kissing a nurse at the Times Square celebration on August 15, 1945, at the end of World War II. The photograph was one of many Eisenstaedt took that day, and he didn’t bother getting the names of anyone. Only after seeing the proofs did he realize that he had captured a decisive moment. On the 50th anniversary of the photograph, the couple was identified as Edith Shain and Carl Muscarello.

I did a photograph review on this last semester for my composition class. ^

Quote:
At 6:31 a.m. Robert Capa landed in the first wave on Omaha Beach. He captured 'bloody Omaha' in what turned out to be a world famous photo sequence.
Capa described the morning, "After the pre-invasion breakfast at 3 am with hot cakes, sausages, eggs and coffee, served on the invasion ship by white-coated waiters, at 4 am the invasion barges were lowered down into the rough sea. The men from my barge waded in the water. I paused for a moment on the gangplank to take my first real picture of the invasion. The boatswain who was in a hurry to get the hell out of there, mistook my picture-taking attitude for explicable hesitation, and helped me make up my mind with a well-aimed kick in the rear. The water was cold and the beach still more than a hundred yards away. The bullets tore holes in the water around me and I made for the nearest steel obstacle." His three rolls of film were rushed to London for processing. There a darkroom technician, eager for glimpses of the landing, dried the film too fast. The excessive heat melted the emulsion and ruined all but 10 frames. The soldier in the picture has been identified as Huston Sears Riley.

If one felt the harshness of the Japanese Empire, one would definitely appreciate their complete and utter defeat at the hands of those far their superior, proclaims Rolf.

Rolf, I challenge you to a duel. Melee weapons only, preferably medieval, but not limited to. Just nothing too modern. Which do you choose? Dual wielding (or sword and shield) is allowed.

Rolf accepts, accepts Rolf. The armour of Rolf shall include a visorless conical helmet with chain mail aventail surrounding the entire face of Rolf in mystery, Rolf shall also wear a long hauberk of chain, a lamellar cuirass, greaves for the feet of Rolf and gauntlets for the arms of Rolf. The arms of Rolf shall include the long axe, the arming sword (type XIa), the dagger and the shield of Rolf, which shall be of the circular migration period type as opposed to the larger kite type due to this being a duel on foot, proclaims Rolf. Rolf wishes thee luck, however, Rolf shall not offer mercy, for the mother, wife, concubines, sister and mead hall of thee are belong to Rolf.

True, agrees Rolf, not yet at the level of savagery displayed by the Japanese Empire though, adds Rolf.

Dresden WWII. The British and US air forces combined in a joint effort to bomb civilians. 15 square miles of destructions.
Not the largest attack where allied forces focused on civilian rather than military targets but definitely the most remembered.

They weren't "fucking with the national guard". They were engaging in a protest, and the Guard decided that it was nice to take target practice on them.

when a bunch of men with rifles and bayonets tell you to disperse i recommend doing it

Just before noon, the Guard returned and again ordered the crowd to disperse. When most of the crowd refused, the Guard used tear gas. Because of wind, the tear gas had little effect in dispersing the crowd, and some launched a second volley of rocks toward the Guard's line, too distant to have any effect, to chants of "Pigs off campus!" The students lobbed the tear gas canisters back at the National Guardsmen, who wore gas masks.
When it was determined the crowd was not going to disperse, a group of 77 National Guard troops from A Company and Troop G, with bayonets fixed on their rifles, began to advance upon the hundreds of protesters

That's quite a misguided statement by thee, the National Guard did their job, which was to disperse the crowd, proclaims Rolf. The first attempts were done with non-lethal tear gas, when that was ineffective and the protesters threw the tear gas and rocks back at them, instead of backing off as ordered, the National Guard responded to the increased aggression with increased aggression, which is what one does when one's current tactics are not working, proclaims Rolf. If the students did what they were told, they wouldn't have ended up riddled with bullets, would they? Asks Rolf.
