If I have a jailbroken and unlocked IPhone 3GS and want to tether..
If I have a jailbroken and unlocked IPhone 3GS(version 4.1) with an AT&T data plan and want to use that plan to connect my laptop to the Internet, what do I need to do?
I just got this phone and have looked in the Cydia app and noticed several tethering apps. Can I do this for free? Will AT&T likely find out?
Please help.

Everything you need is already included in the original OS. I have no idea how much you fucked it up while jail breaking so I can't really tell you. Either use Google, or restore as new and come back. And yes, AT&T will know. Just don't use too much data and you'll be fine.

This is why I prefer Sprint's Android phones.
No data cap and they're afraid to lose customers by giving two shits about tethering.
