Here's my attempt at the best list of free games out there. I tried to get the best of the best. Only completely free games, not in Beta, Alpha, or whatever are included. I intentionally left Flash games out, those might be for another thread.Only the best of Flash games will be allowed. So, without further ado:

EDIT: Also Added "King Arthur's gold", really cool battle/build game. A sort of "Terraria" but you can also battle and buildings collapse.

Come to think of it, you should put Dwarf Fortress in RPG section too.

The game has two modes. When you generate a world, you can either play the 'Dwarf Fortress' mode (civ management/war) or 'Adventure' mode, which is basically a rogueike where you roam the world doing shit killing monsters or more nefarious activities.

Strategy/diplomacy game.
Lasts a long time, but not particularly intensive play. Logging in once or twice a day, playing 30 minutes total would suffice (if not be uber competitive).

Also, not much micromanagement. Combat and resource system is very simple, so tactics aren't so important. Instead, strategic placement of forces, long term planning, and especially diplomacy are much more important.

Fucking sexy. I've been looking for good free games to play, and stumbled upon this chart. Beforehand I had downloaded PSO:BB, which is a classic favorite, and got myself on another ragnarok online server. Speaking of which, RateMyServer.net could possibly be added to this?

It's like Eve Online's nerdy little cousin. Combat is alright because you have to maneuver your ship (weapons have firing arcs: 90º, 250º, etc), you maneuver with WASD/mouse, directional shields, etc
I'm not sure yet if it's Pay to Win, but so far it's pretty enjoyable.
There's ground and space combat.
