Re: Submissions for Photography contest #2 city-scape theme
Maybe this is a dumb question but here goes:
1. Do I send my submissions to you?
2. Is it 1 or 2 pics? The last battle was 2 pictures.
Thanks

Re: Submissions for Photography contest #2 city-scape theme
2 pictures and you post them in this thread if their your final submission. You can change them but must edit your original post saying you also eiited them. I strongly suggest you don't change your mind but that is up to you.
Why did you IP logg me Kw?

What kind of camera's are you guys using? Is it possible to take artsy photographs with a low quality kodak digital camera?

I took mine with a 5 megapixel Sony point and shoot. You don't need an expensive camera to take good pictures.

Re: Submissions for Photography contest #2 city-scape theme
Camera's don't matter, it's all about the photographer. I have seen amazing photo's take with 50 dollar camera's. I myself have a canon 20D which does help a lot but you don't have to go out and buy something like this unless you really want to get into photography.

Aye!
And what of incredibly close up pictures of industrial shit? I don't really have a city to take pics of, but I went exploring a superfund site a while back and got really cool pics. It's basically a desolate, shitty, uh.. like concrete... ah fuck it I'll wait for round three.

No, it shouldn't, alot of the voters might not really know what to look for in a good photo. The most important thing when taking pictures within a certain theme, is that they are that theme! If you enter a real contest, and you would give that picture for city-scape, I'm also convinced that it would be vertically classified (in the trashcan) as it really isn't about a city-scape. Don't get me wrong, it's a good picture, it just doesn't fit in this theme.

Your second picture isn't a cityscape at all. It's just a picture of a building. A cityscape should always display a portion of the city large enough so you get an idea of what kind off a city is it, and ofcourse display this in an artistic way.
On the other hand, I do like the picture. The rainspots at the top of the picture and the lights on the building on the lower end of the picture seem to be mirroring eachother. I also like the atmosphere in that one.

This is actually a townscape, but I guess it can't be easy for everybody to go out to the city.
I like the picture though, it would of been nicer to of seen a bit more of the town again. And something that could of changed the entire picture which is actually only a small touch would of been if the American flag would of been flailing in the wind.
It would of been a really "come live in the USA" picture.

Both your pictures are well within the the theme of cityscape. But in my opinion, your first picture is a bit flat. It lacks depth and it also seems to be underexposed.
I like your second picture though. It seems to be telling a story. With the guy in the business suit crossing, and then the contrast standing on the curb. Really nice, though the composition could of maybe been a bit better.

Re: Submissions for Photography contest #2 city-scape theme
Be back with another soon.
Taken just to the left of the little arrow.
EDIT: Actually, would this count?

It was taken right in the middle of the city center, and it is a kind of city themed thing I guess.
If it's not then it's cool

sorry man the second isn't a city scape theme.
also townscapes will be accepted as long as you don't have a major city near by. I know some of you live in the country and it's hard to get city but town will work also but you must make it look as city as possibe.

Re: Submissions for Photography contest #2 city-scape theme

if lovecraft didnt use that long of an exposure, the shot would probably be way underexposed. judging by the fact that it looks like they were using the railing as a makeshift tripod, they were probably shooting wide open too so decreasing the aperture wouldnt be an option and on camera flash (and flash in general unless skillfully executed) makes nighttime shots yucky
i kinda like the blurred people anyway

I disagree, I think that fits. You said it only had to have buildings. If you wanted people to post 'landscape-like urban/city scapes' then you should have said so.

Re: Submissions for Photography contest #2 city-scape theme
I really don't see a need to be such a Nazi about cityscapes versus a more general urban theme. This is supposed to be about creativity, and being all "that's not what we asked for" is a little stifling.

how about we just take pretty pictures? Just saying, if there's a theme, there's a theme, especially in a contest. It's so you can show your skill and that you can keep to the given boundaries.

Re: Submissions for Photography contest #2 city-scape theme
Of course there's a theme. I'm not retarded. I'm just saying that being overly restrictive with the theme is counterproductive. It's like telling people to take pictures of waterscapes and only accepting oceans.

A cityscape should show a city, not just a building, or two buildings, but a city. If you're unsure as to what a city-scape exactly is, see here.
