Thumbs Up Re: insomnia

5-HTP

Tryptophan

Melatonin

GABA

Try out those different supplements and see which one works for you. I've been taking GABA and it's helped me SO MUCH. It also increases GH levels which is good for athletes. I would definately recommend 1.5g of GABA two hours before bedtime for insomnia. If you take 2g it makes your body tingle

Avoid having the lights on in a room after 8.00pm. This will help make you feel sleepy.

I have heard from numerous sources that GABA doesn't readily cross the blood brain barrier, otherwise I'd be taking it right now. I hear you have to take ridiculous amounts (basically overload the BBB) to get decent amounts where it's needed, and doing that consistently poses some potential health risks. I've been taking theanine for GABA instead. Also Ashwagandha has shown GABA-mimetic action.

I agree with the others on your list, though, my friend is taking a sleep-aid that contains Theanine, Melatonin, 5-HTP, and St Johns Wort. I think Tryptophan is much safer to take than 5-HTP, though.

I've heard mixed reports on GABA. I've heard of the BBB being "breached" and allowing things that otherwise might not pass through to go through. It might not work for some people, but from personal experience I have noticed a difference that is far from placebo.

I've tried every sleeping medication under the sun, and the only thing that has worked for me besides Soma is GABA. Even benzos, ambien, and melatonin won't put me to sleep.

I have this problem too. Chronic intermittent insomnia.
I do get regular sleep, but I get periods of almost no to absolutely no sleep. I have come to staying completely awake for weeks.

I must say, it is very annoying when you want to sleep and you lie there for hours waiting for your mind to shut down and it just doesnt. I have gone to such despair as to repeatedly stab my bed with my knife. Yes, I did fuck up the sheets that time and my mother went all fucking crazy about it. More than she already was.

There is not much I can do when it happens. If I have a book I read until dawn and then carry on with my usual activities, as it is much harder for me to wake and start up if I do fall asleep for less hours than I need to than if I just stay awake.

The other thing I found is Blue Lotus. Make a tea of it or smoke it. Seems to help.

Warm milk sometimes helps. Sleep aids have not worked on me. Neither has the rest.

I have high photo sensitivity, which means I can see with little light. I wear sunglasses all day and up through then night. I can see well in the dark. I think the light/dark detecting parts of my eyes are way altered. This doesnt work for me.

I can vouch for Blue lotus/blue lily. Smoking didn't give me any effect though and is utterly dissapointing in every way possible, try making some tea out of it. Take a tablespoon and mix with boiling hot water, you're better off drinking it without the residue plant matter. Use more if required.

Prepare for some sick dreams too. I usually wake up kinda refreshed though I must say.

Also if it's stress induced insomnia, try rhodiola.
