Will beer hamper my quest for the perfect body?
I'm worried that drinking beer will prevent me from ever being perfectly cut up with washboard abs and that no matter how buff I get I'll always have an unsightly layer of fat covering my muscles.
Any legitimacy to my worries?

lol
Dude, beer is empty carbohydrates. Its not all that healthy. But like everything you just have to live in moderation. Maybe limit yourself to a couple beers a week (interspersed) if you now consider yourself a regular drinker. If you want washboard abs a more legitimate concern is your exercise program as well as the rest of your diet.
So, yeah. Exercise and don't be an alcoholic.

Re: Will beer hamper my quest for the perfect body?
I'm a pretty heavy drinker (in social situations) and it does hinder you a bit, but you can still drink a lot and make progress. Just not as good as you might otherwise. It depends what's worth more to you; gaining as fast and effectively as you can, or having fun getting drunk off your ass at the cost of some gains.
That said, when I'm not drinking for a while I do start to look better pretty quickly without increasing my workouts. I drop weight pretty fast when I'm at home, which I presume is because I drink a lot less than I drink at uni (usually at least my weekly recommended intake in a night, 3-4 nights a week).

I just mixed ingredients to make wine and found that almost 10kg of sugar goes in making 5 gallons of wine, thats quite alot I think you would agree. If you cant quit the source though go for spirits like vodka or whisky, lower calories.

excellent thinking!
also, the yeast turns the sugar into alcohol so i don't think you actually digest all that sugar.

Fact: Studies have shown that a pint of dark beer after running or exercising, and THEN drinking water is, in fact, beneficial to you.

I wouldn't lie about that though, as I honestly have no reason to.

The alcohool however is more calorific than straight sugar, 7kcals per gram versus 4kcals per gram, some sugar is not turned into alcohol as well.

OH shit. I just found out that there are 110 calories in a 12 oz beer. That is fucked up. I really need to cut down on my drinking.
And thats a LIGHT beer.

If you drink more beer you will think you are better looking than you really are.

When I made homebrew I used two kilos for 23 litres of beer, that's quite a lot already.

Re: Will beer hamper my quest for the perfect body?
IDK, due to money issues and what have you I've cut down immensely and lost about a stone in the last month. I'm still eating shit loads but am reasonably skinny (well I qualify that, I'm around 168 lbs and 6'3 tall) for it. So I'd say if you want to be on top of your gain don't drink. That being said this Irish man is missing his brews.

Re: Will beer hamper my quest for the perfect body?
Alcohol can hamper your gains like Mr Happy said, but unless you are a bodybuilder or want that kind of body, I wouldn't worry, it won't make a massive difference. Just make an allowance in your daily calories for them. If you go over, do some more exercise.

Actually, it was coming from Tyler Durden. Different people.
EDIT- Also, instead of drinking large amounts of beer, couldn't you just drink small amounts of much stronger alcohol, and cut out most of the calories?

Beer is a lot of empty calories as has been said, but get drunk and high and work out and you will have the best fucking workout ever.
