The Office (UK)
I love The Office and i've watched every single episode like 5 times, so I wanted to get into the original BBC version and I tried to watch it, but
a) i didn't understand WHAT the fuck anyone was saying
b) the parts that i did get were only mildly humorous
so what is so great about the british Office? Is it really popular in England or is it just another 'show that comes on but if theres nothing else good on you guess you'll watch it' type thing?

Re: The Office (UK)
Ha most Americans don't really get UK humour.
How can you not understand what they say??? They don't even have strong accents..
It is popular here, its classic.
USA! USA! USA! Wooo!

Is this a troll thread?
Both of The Offices are pretty shit, but The Office (UK) is much better than the US version.
If you can't understand what they are saying then

Re: The Office (UK)
not really seen the US office properly but aren't they pretty much exactly the same? like the only time i saw the US version it was when they threw that guys shoes over the roof, which happened exactly the same way in the english one. so i never really bothered with it much after that.
i been watching US shameless tho, thats pretty much a carbon copy too, but its got emmy rossum getting nekid as fiona so that just changes everything.
edit: i gotta add, altho macy's a great actor, he really does fail as frank, like really fails.

It stems from the fact that Michael Scott is a huge twat and not in a funny way.

you know what i've noticed about the differences between british and american humour? why they don't get it?
we laugh at ourselves, like a lot. americans tend to take themselves a little too seriously(altho they'll never admit it). so they just don't get it when we take the piss out of ourselves, i think thats kinda unnatural to that 'america yeah' attitude. not saying thats a bad thing on americans or that it applies to everyone of them, just a fundamental difference i noticed going on.

see you just dont get it at all. he's not trying to be an ass, he's an ass trying way to hard to be cool. but its the same story, same character told in two different countries. there can't be that much of a difference surely.

Re: The Office (UK)
UK Office relies more on cringeworthy humor. it's supposed to be funny, but funny in the way you would laugh at a fat kid falling on his face or something. personally, the episode where they do training day and David Brent yells about someone getting raped is my favorite.

I can kind of understand where the OP is coming from when he says he can't understand what the british people are saying. My favorite part of the UK office is the awkward stares of the boss. His character is actually great.

Re: The Office (UK)
I watched the English version first and I didn't really enjoy it. There were some funny moments but I bailed out after 3 episodes.
I loved the first season of The Office US and I thought the second season was great too, it became a cartoon at the start of season 3 and I couldn't stand it anymore.

yeah that whole Jim and Pam arc is the only thing I don't like about the show. Why does every show feel its mandatory to add a love plot??? a lot of shows would be better off without it.

So more women will care about the show. Appealing to a broader market to make more money.

I really dislike Ricky Gervais, and the actors in the UK Office are just so bland. US Dwight = 100000000x better than UK Dwight.

Re: The Office (UK)
People that don't like the office are probably rather unintelligent in real life and like shows like 2 and a half men where it's very obvious shock humor. The office is very subtle which just makes it that much more awesome. That being said I've never watched the UK office but I'm assuming Ricky Gervais plays the equivalent of Steve Carell? Could be funny Idk.

I tried to watch it but had the same problem
Did not find it all that funny or couldn't understand what the fuck they were saying
That is why they remake good UK shows in the US, the original series does not translate to well to an America audience
Plus I find Ricky Gervais annoying, his laugh is way over the top, and he is not that funny.

Ricky Gervais is an ass IRL, so he's basically plays himself on the UK show.
