What interesting fun can I have with a shit ton of gun powder?

Been helping clean out my grand dad's basement and get his shit sorte dout for him lately, and I've been getting the old reloadingbench cleaned and set back up. In the process I found myself with about 3 gallons of black powder that he said we should just burn off in favor of new stuff once there's a little more snow on the ground.

So, aside from just lighting up a hell of a fire, what would be the mos tinteresting application I could put this mountain of gun powder towards? I really don't like the idea of wasting such a nice sized stash of gunpowder on something as lame as a backyard pit fire.

Suggestions for more satsifying backyard entertainment?

Got a mixed bag of everything going on there. I don't know the details as I never got into reloading much. I shoot a .270, why bother reloading when rounds are dirt cheap? It looks like pretty heavy grained stuff in the jugs. I know there's a fair bit of FFFG there in plastic containers that looks newer. I'm assuming that's the powder my granddad uses in his muzzleloader.

I was just looking into whether or not it was a component in model rocket fuel at all, but that looks way easier to cookup than I had imagined.

Not really looking to slap together a pipebomb or anything. Was hoping it could be used more as a component of propulsion fuel for a rocket or something fun to work on.

Cannon sounds exciting though, haha.

Firecrackers mightbea fun little experiment of sorts if the powderis appropriate.

I vote make your own fireworks. That's the only other major use of old school gunpowder anymore. Not sure what you'd need to add for some pretty colors, I'm sure you could find something sitting around the house. Hell, borax & salt might be all you'd need for a pretty yellow & green.

See how big of a hole you can make in the ground, you have enough to probably make a huge hole with three blasts if you just contain the charge.

OOH.. I'd say at least a couple few 1' lengths of 3"schedule 40 black or galvanized pipe, threaded on each end with end caps.. maybe packed full of nails and ball bearings... pick someone or someplace you really don't like... I'm sure you could figure out the rest...

Just make a beer can mortar. All you really need is a pipe that a can will fit into and a pit dug in the ground.

Put your pipe into the hole with an end cap and place a fitted piece of wood over the cap then start packing dirt around the pipe.

To use this mortar run some speaker wire down into the bottom of the pipe and put some 000 or 0000 steel wool over top of the two prongs (try to make sure they're on top of the wood and not on the metal pipe) then place your powder charge and then wadding and beer can filled with cement.

I figure you know by now to touch the wires off to a car battery at a safe distance encase it all goes to hell and to have pics and vids for us.
