Concealed Carry in the Summer
What are the best ways to carry concealed in the summer? Esp. for those who carry a full-size semiauto, I have a S&W 1006 10mm, it's the same size of a 4506; basically big & heavy.

Re: Concealed Carry in the Summer
I'm not a huge guy by any means, but I can CCW a 1911 in a T-shirt with any pants I've worn, IWB.

Re: Concealed Carry in the Summer
I've seen fanny pack-type holsters that would accomodate a sizeable pistol.
Me, I just carry a Beretta Jetfire in an ankle holster, and/or a little North American Arms .22 mag in a jeans pocket.

Re: Concealed Carry in the Summer
A stable belt and a well constructed leather OWB holster all covered by a long t-shirt will pretty much hide anything.
You could go IWB if you want, but I find that it seems to add more bulk than an OWB held close to the body.
But then again I'm 6'1" 145lbs, so whatever your body style is may work better with an IWB, I don't know.
And if you don't like leather (or Safari-Laminate in my case) you can always use Kydex, but be sure to stay away from Fobus, their plastic seems much to soft and it flops to much to conceal well.
Raven Concealment and Bladetech are apparently top of the line Kydex holsters, but if you're on a budget an Uncle Mike's Kydex holster will work well too.

Re: Concealed Carry in the Summer
I am 6'0" and 170lbs. I carry a full size CZ 75B in shorts and a t-shirt in a Bianchi IWB holster.

Can't carry with basketball or similar shorts cuz it pulls them down though :-(

Now that we are on the subject, R_L, what kind of rig would you suggest to conceal carry my M1911, that also allows me to draw fast if needs be?

Re: Concealed Carry in the Summer
i have a mitch rosen express line arg that sits behind the right hip for a 1911 thats fairly comfortable and fast the only drawback is there's no retention strap it works well with a tee shirt unless you have to bend lol. another one that works good is a clipdraw then i just fit the slide into the top coin pocket of my pants with the clipdraw on the belt its fairly comfortable and a plus is its attached to the gun and you can wear it many ways and you only have to remove the grips to take it on/ off its like 20 bucks. my cousin has a galico summer carry for his glock 21 and he seems to like it well and it conceals fairly easy he wears it at about 2 o clock on his body. also those are failry expensive holsters like 70-80 dollars if your a little strapped for cash till you can find something better galico and uncle mikes make some fairly cheap like 20 dollar clipable holsters that work fairly well iwb my walther pp has one i forget the maker and it i like the clippable style well and its fairly thin.

Re: Concealed Carry in the Summer
I really like IWB. It just works for me. I use a no-name nylon holster without a retention strap for my 1911. Free hand pulls up shirt while live hand grips and draws. I can do it at least as fast as OWB drawing from a SERPA.
I'm considering cutting the retention strap off of my Galco IWB for another weapon.
I usually IWB and pocket carry. That said, I can surprisingly enough pocket carry a Smith and Wesson M&P Compact in jeans. It's definitely a little difficult, and they're not loose jeans, but it is possible. I've only done it a few times to see if it was possible and would print noticeably. I prefer something like a PPS or PF-9 for pocket carry as far as semi-automatics go.

Re: Concealed Carry in the Summer
Im just curious how much longer does it take for you guys to unholster your weapon when you are carrying concealed versus Open carry? I myself open carry my Taurus 24/7, in cheap nylon holster. I open carry because they CCW classes are full for a long time and im leaving in a week so I was unable to get my CCW. I would think it would take at least an extra second or two, since I know it takes an extra second when I actually use my thumb release instead of having already undone so it being concealed has to take an extra second or two?

What kind of glock (caliber doesn't count) and what the hell is a "back holster?"
Small of back? Appendix carry? Brands?
I pocket carry in an Uncle Mike's. I have a cheap 9mm Keltec for it and I got a Galco IWB (leather) for the M&P. I prefer them on my time.

I can draw from a concealed holster without a retention strap in under two seconds. I haven't timed it, but I would imagine it to be a little over one second since it's at least as fast as from a level 2 retention SERPA OWB. Maybe even faster.

Re: Concealed Carry in the Summer
I carry a 1911, I just got an inexpensive soft IWB and I have never had any problems with it. The only time it is at all uncomfortable is when I have to be sitting for more than 30 minutes or so. and even then its more of an annoyance than anything else. Sometimes I just leave it on the outseide of my belt, and most shirts I have are long enough to cover 99% of it, so its not really that noticeable anyway.

Don't carry anymore, but used to carry a FN HiPower in a cheap IWB over the right hand side kidney wearing pants and an untucked dress or hawaiian shirt.

I understand what you're saying. I just weighed it, it is 1367 grams with 8 rounds in the magazine.
Good thread for this time of year, though.

Re: Concealed Carry in the Summer
For day to day carry I conceal a Kahr MK 40 in my front right hand pocket. Wears fine with jeans, slacks, or shorts. When working in the New Orleans area I prefer a full size CZ 75 BD in .40 usually carried OWB under a light jacket or loose T-shirt.

Re: Concealed Carry in the Summer
I can't legally carry here, it's a shame really, but I think that if I could I would probably carry something really small, like Armsmerchant does.
I can't believe some of you are able to conceal a 1911, that's a huge pistol.
I tried to conceal my tanfoglio(CZ clone) while in the house, and if I looked at myself in the mirror I could cleary see it.

Re: Concealed Carry in the Summer
Single stack 1911s are some of the slimmest pistols in the world.
I don't see how anyone would have an issue concealing one.
Were you using some kind of giant holster or something?

Re: Concealed Carry in the Summer
They're slim but they're also pretty large; I can't conceal mine unless I wear cargo shorts, and even then it prints a little (and pulls my pants down if I'm not careful).
I'd much prefer a G27 or some kind of S&W J-frame. Stick it in one of those nemesis pocket holsters and you're good to go.
Oh, I forgot, I'm not Dianne Feinstein, therefore I can't carry a concealed weapon in my state.

If I look in the mirror I can see mine too because I know its there. The general public doesn't pay that much attention. I reached up to grab something off a high shelf in a busy aisle in Meijers. My shirt came clear up over the butt of my CZ and when i brought my arms back down it was hanging out for all the world to see. Not a single person noticed. And if they did who cares i have a license to carry.
