I'm a loser who hates racing games - no matter how many gimmicks you add to the act of racing, I will not enjoy it.

SNES one is the most competitive, also the hardest.

N64 is classic, and the mini games were hours of fun

Double dash was a lot of fun, but pretty stupid. You can be 1st to 8th or 8th to 1st with an item or two.

i haven't played any others cause im not gay

Double Dash..

I'm about 20th in the UK for the time-trials. No-one could beat my time trial times. Still only 150th or something in the world.

MKDD for the fucking win.

don't you think the gamecube controllers were/are easily the best of all?

they beat the shit out of xbox pads, and especially playstation ones. it's just a shame they're not around any longer, unless you like the wii.

double-dash.
I've played all the console ones, and the GBA version. Double-dash is easily my favourite.

I mean, N64 mario kart was a good game, but it wasn't even as good as diddy kong racing. Then again, nor was double-dash IMO, but it was a lot more fun than any other mario kart.

Everyone would probably agree that basically every controller did/does.

Except me. The original xbox controllers are still my favorite controller to date. I don't know why. I actually hated the S-controller when people started switching to that.

20th is pretty bad to brag about. That's like, a week of practicing time trials to get that rank?

Oh man, this is why I hate racing games/competetive gamers. Who the fuck practices their gaming? If somebody brags about 20th place I assume that's natural talent or built up over time, not dedicating a week to practicing.

This is just so wrong. And all this effort is so you can tell* people how good you are at moving your thumbs or hand a few inches at a time. All so you can feel good about yourself. It's just... I don't know. Sad.

I was never really into Xbox so the GC controller just feels right.

A few months actually. I really enjoyed the game so doing something which some people saw as tedious was fun for me. Plus, seeing yourself take over people in the leaderboards is great.

Here's my times if you want to compare against them. I hated Wario C and Rainbow road..

While I understand your point, I think it's a very superficial and self-opinionated way of looking at competitive gaming. You could argue someone ranked high in snowboarding is more laudable than someone ranked high in MKDD, but if they like what they are doing and get enjoyment out of it, why judge? Sure, people do it to feel good about themselves, why not? It does feel good to be better than the majority at something. Even if that something is moving your fingers a few inches.

I know. I can get into competitive gaming to a degree, but I could never be serious about it enough to dedicate time specifically to practicing something. I'm happy enough being better than some people, some of the time.

Why should someone ranked high in snowboarding be more laudable? Because they use every mental and visual skill associated with playing MKDD, plus need to dedicate time to working on their body, they risk disfiguring injury (not just to perform tricks that people like to watch), and they're actually doing something - you can snowboard and see new sights all the time. You stand on top of fucking mountains to do what you're good at and enjoy.

While playing MKDD you are playing MKDD. Nothing else. You're getting good at something for the sake of being good at it, nothing else. You will not see new sights. In fact, dedicating your time to that prevents you from experiencing the beautiful world you actually live in.

That's the difference.

I'm going to agree with you here... the only point I would go against is the one regarding being good at something for the sake of being good at it. Enjoyment was the reason I play, being good at it is a secondary benefit.

Fair enough, yeah. If you're just playing something you enjoy and getting good as you go by all means that's cool. I don't mind you bragging about being 20th place even, because that's cool - there are only 19 people better than you in your country, that's a nice feeling.

Anybody who dedicates time to practicing though... needs to seriously look at themselves and their lives. Something went wrong if you're playing a game to get good at it so you can beat people and then finally enjoy it.

don't be a douche, I'm sure the same people are saying the same thing about you for posting on an internet forum with strangers.

video games are the modern days man of feeling like a man. Before we went out and killed lions then brought it back to the camp, today we cast spells on them.

I enjoy it here and at least I improve some useful skills by being here (critical thinking, rhetoric, debate). I won't deny they'd be fully within their rights to say I need to look at myself and my life though; they'd be right.

If playing games makes you feel manly that's pretty sad. Nothing manly about that. Also casting spells is a different area of discussion entirely. I love vidya. I just can't too into playing a game where the only goal is being better than the people I play against/with. I'll play CS:S or MW2 online for a few rounds here and there, but I'd never devote myself to getting good at them.
