Vector Marketing
Anybody have experience with this company?
So I was just interviewed by them and my bullshit radar went off, so now I want to find out more. I've learned of a group called SAVE, or Students Against Vector Exploitation but this seems to be a result of their vague advertising on college campuses (where I was nabbed) and their hiring practices. What I want to know is whether they're a scam entirely, so that I can decide if it's worth taking the job or not.
Please describe your experience and, in particular, what the interview was like.

Re: Vector Marketing
I'm pretty sure they are a scam. They used spam letters out fuck loads of students. I would ask pretty much any one and they'd say got the same letter. You interviewed with them though so you probably know more than me. What did they say to tip your bullshit detector?

Re: Vector Marketing
they get people to come in and then ask if they have friends who want a job to, then call them.
its not a real interview because they let everyone sell shit for them. Around here they try to get people to sell knives made by cutco. They pick kids to dumb to find a job then they end up sucking shit and not making anything and having to buy the salesman display package.

Re: Vector Marketing
Total bullshit and you will make very little money. I heard you're not allowed to go door to door so you're forced to ask your friends and family to buy your shit.

Re: Vector Marketing
It is essentially a pyramid scheme in that the managers and higher-ups are the only ones who make real money, and that you have to get other people you know to pay for the shit, but it's not exactly one. I'm not sure you get any money if your friends sign up, they just use them to make profits for themselves. and you CAN make money, it's just really time consuming and you end up making less than minimum wage in the end.

Re: Vector Marketing
If you are good enough at sales to make money doing it you can get a much better job.

Re: Vector Marketing
They appear to be nationwide, maybe further, and you basically sell knives. They don't pay by commission, but by hours you work; and you don't have to buy the display set anymore. This checks out so far.
I showed up to my interview late, about ten minutes late. They were happy to see me. It was a group interview, but only two of us were interviewed. I had written "eagle scout" somewhere on the application, the manager of this center also happened to be an eagle scout. The other person was a young woman who was very attractive, friendly and intelligent. She talked music with the interviewer, I had written that on my application. Clearly she had a script, although I could be wrong. She knew how to answer everything well, it definitely made me feel inferior. Had they chosen between us, I would have been sent home.
Then, just before they called me in to explain how I'd been hired immediately, a guy bursts into the room and shakes my hand, saying he remembers me from high school, but can't remember where at school he encountered me. I'd never met him before. He told me the job was a lot of fun and that I should take it right away because I'd make a lot of money fast. He was smiling in the same way people smile at a church retreat.
I was called in after a shitty interview, told that I did well for the one-on-one portion and offered the job right away. I said yes, and was instructed to show up for three eight-hour days of unpaid training, which I never attended.
TL;DR - It's a fucking setup.

Re: Vector Marketing
My friend almost worked for Vector Marketing(technically Cutco Knives). It's a huge, huge scam. Pretty much they work on commission; how many knives you sell. But the trick is that you first have to buy some knives from them and you have to sell them in order to begin working for them. They really encourage you to sell them to your friends and family. You'll make virtually no money doing this, and in particular they target high school and college students who are desperate for money. It sounds easy, but it's complete bullshit.
I also remember reading how they've been involved in several lawsuits pertaining to their poor business practices. There's a reason they are very vague as to nature of the job.
Don't do it!
