Murder - Could you do it?
I've never posted anything remotely seriously on &T or Zoklet, certainly anything like I'm about to write, and I seriously doubt I'll get a response that wasn't for lulz, but I can going to tempt fate and answer a question in hope that some kind members should shed some light on the thoughts I've been having over the last 10 minutes or so.
Where do you personally stand on the point of taking somebody else's life?
While I hate to play the "Nobody loves me card", after all I know that many have grown up in far more awkward social situations that myself, I have always craved to be socially popular and accepted, in any group for anything, I didn't care as long as I lived the idealistic life I saw portrayed on Television, as ridiculous as that may sound. Of course, my life didn't go as planned, and now I'm left at 17 with the feeling that my life is already over and completely and utterly worthless.
I'm not sure, but I think over my teenage years the worth of life has become eroded away the value of life to me. Which is a shame really, I think I was a pretty sensitive child, I still think some of that sensitivity lives on, but for every moment that I get into this mind set, for every moment that I live this existence that hasn't lived up to my great expectations, I feel it die.
Usually my block for even thinking, was the "What if I get caught" scenario, but now I'm getting to the point where I just don't care. I want a reason to exist, a reason to get up and breathe and every moment that I don't have such a reason, it kills me. I used to hate just my life, now I feel myself getting to the point where I just hate life. Not mine, (because that would be far too easy), but Life itself. It is bigoted, deluded and overrated - These are the qualities that I detest in human beings, so why should I put up with them in an idea?
I do need a reason to exist, a reason greater than work and promises of material wealth. That might have seen we through when I was broke, but now I see that it doesn't mean Jack. That's what 99.9% of people straddle through life hoping to achieve, and look where it gets most of them - A dead end job, loveless marriage, brat kids and a Mortgage .
Talking about taking the anger of my failed existence by ending others'. I must sound like a charming fellow .

I agree, push anyone hard enough and they can do anything. Even the most sensitive or seemingly moral people.
Well, almost anyone. I'm not sure about, say, Buddha, or Jesus, or those monks who self immolated themselves in protest of the whole Tibet thing.
But most people, yeah, definitely.

Re: Murder - Could you do it?
I could do it.
I've spent sometime thinking about the how, the who and the where and
I've come up with a pretty solid plan.
However, the key word was 'could' so anybody with little alarm bells
going off can silence them.

Re: Murder - Could you do it?
There's a reason why I try not to fight anymore with people... Mostly cause of the last guy I put in the ER when I blacked out and woke up covered in what I'm assuming was his blood.
There's other "Instances" where I'm unsure of the outcome but it all dates back from when I was a wee lad up until my last year of high school... Proud to say I haven't needed to be in a fight since.

I'm moving this to the Inhumane Condition. It has much more to do with ethics, morality, and the human condition than it does with psychology.

Re: Murder - Could you do it?
Statistically speaking like 90 percent of murders happen in the heat of the moment. (which is why premeditated murder is so particularly heinous).
I think its safe to say you aren't going to be meticulously planning a murder so as long as you keep happy, un murderous thoughts you won't become a killa.

Re: Murder - Could you do it?
I agree that most people could do it under the right circumstances, but there have been cases throughout history of men who physically couldn't kill because of psychological factors, meaning their arm or hand became paralyzed when faced with the decision to kill, which was "miraculously healed" once they got off the battlefield, this wasn't faked though, the psychological pressure literally disabled them temporarily. Back in the days of musket warfare where rows of men would stand and shoot, some would miss on purpose even though they were fully exposed and vulnerable to gunfire.

Re: Murder - Could you do it?
^Like I said, I agree that most people could do it, but there have been cases of those examples I gave, which can't be denied. It's not so black and white, like people just fearing the consequences, most of our actions are based in our subconscious mind which we are unaware of. In a war zone where its kill or be killed, those people who became paralyzed probably consciously wanted to kill and survive, but the subconscious factors were too much for them, rendering them useless.
Maybe it is because they're defective, after all if a person can't to kill to save their own life, they have failed in their Darwinian fitness.

Re: Murder - Could you do it?
I think it's natural for anyone to kill in self defense, because as one poster stated, it is natural to value your own life and to do everything that is humanly possible to survive. But to willingly want to kill someone for absolutely no reason or for a very stupid and insignificant reason, is most certainly unnatural. People like school shooters or serial killers are, in my opinion, very different from everyone else and exhibit unnatural desires.
Now that doesn't mean people who kill not in self defense but for other very good reasons is natural. For instance, if someone willfully massacred someone's family, got him fired and in a position where he is unable to work, burned his house down, and killed his dog, it is natural for him to want to kill that person. I think everyone has that breaking point where someone has been wronged so bad that it literally brings them to that point of wanting to kill that person. Of course we all have different breaking points, but we all have that breaking point...at least all normal people.
Whether your someone who doesn't have that breaking point or someone who has a small or no breaking point, your abnormal either way.

Re: Murder - Could you do it?
I could kill a person no problem. It's just a hassle to kill someone. Pretty easy to get away with too. If I wanted to kill someone, I likely wouldn't suffer any moral issues afterwards. Probably just forget it happened, and it would simply slip into the past. Seems like a lot of work though, so I'm not sure what my motive would be to make it happen. I could easily do it though.

Re: Murder - Could you do it?
Anyone who has a moral problem with killing others is a brainwashed idiot. Death happens all the time and they'll die eventually. People act like it is a big thing because it's unreversable, well unreversible change happens all the time if u've ever read a thermodynamics textbook. With enough pain anyone can be pushed to kill. I used to be disturbed at the thought of the idea but since my life has totally sucked now I just think it would be stupid since it could get u killed or thrown in jail so easily and that would interfere with my plans I would do whatever is neccessary to surive.

Re: Murder - Could you do it?
Entirely circumstantial. I mean, if some guy killed my entire family then I would feel obliged to not only return the favour, but make sure he see's a swift exit also. Well, perhaps not too swift..
But just random strangers who haven't done anything to me? No. Some bullies in school making my life hell? I take comfort in the fact that they will never amount to anything meaningful, which manifests in a sort of loathe filled pity, so no again.
Unless I suddenly went crazy. That would be pretty awesome.

Re: Murder - Could you do it?
I think I could murder someone. Hell I think about it all the time. Guy cuts me off in traffic I think about following him, finding where he lives and killing him in his home or when I fail a test tracking down my professor and killing him. Now do I do it? I would but the hassle of people seeing a change in you after the death is why I really never would do it plus I talk in my sleep sometimes and I bet I would fuck up and talk about how I killed someone.
TL/DR: Would I do it? Yes. Why don't I? Too many reasons to how I would be fucked and caught.

Re: Murder - Could you do it?
I could do it for certain people easily. I would happily do it to some people if I had the chance to do it and never get it. Easily and happily.
I could do it for enough money also. $500,000 or more I think.

I would probably never murder a regular person (unless he killed my loved ones); however there are certain political figures that I wouldn't mind assasinating.

Re: Murder - Could you do it?
I probably could given the right circumstances, but I think I would either kill myself or turn myself in afterwards. Human life isn't something that has to be defended at all costs, but it should be respected. I would only kill someone if it was somehow worth more than my own life to do so.

Re: Murder - Could you do it?
If the person deserved it in my eyes. Then I could definately do it.
You'd have to do something very bad for me to believe you deserve to die. But once it is enough to sway me, I could definately kill you without feeling any remorse.

Re: Murder - Could you do it?
I always feel like I wanna kill someone.. like.. literally dig my nails into their skin til I'm able to rip their face off.. & I have sick murderous fantasies that you don't wanna know about lmao.. But at the end of the day it's not mine or anyone else's place to say who lives or dies.
And what gets me about the human body.. is how it can conjure up so much strength, physically.. but something as pathetic as sucker punch can knock someone out for good. LOL Interesting.
