Default PICAXE vs Arduino for programming ICs?

Not sure if this should go under the engineering forum here, or into the tech/computers forum, but I'll post it here as I think this is engineering stuff. I'm looking at getting into plaaying with some circuitry and was wondering if anyone on Zoklet had any experience with either PICAXE or Arduino. From what I've read it seems Arduino is more flexible and more powerful in terms of what can be done, but PICAXE seems to win on the easy department, and the range of PICs you can work with. Anyone here into electrical engineering have an opinion to share?

Default Re: PICAXE vs Arduino for programming ICs?

Huh, i'll be honest and say ive got no experience with those kinds of projects, but from what I gather from the various stuff that ive quickly googled (which you probably have done too), and from my experience using other convenience vs capability things, I would probably go for picaxe if im starting out, unless you already have a whole bunch of experience with this stuff and are aiming for a complex project. Of course, i could be completely wrong on the matter. Although from what ive read, picaxe isnt actually too limiting at all, and is adequate for quite a lot of systems

ill leave this thread here, but feel free to make another thread in the technology forum as well as DIY. Im sure theyll be happy to leave it there too.
