Immediately after birth there is a huge difference. After that, it depends on whether or not you breastfeed because that is what helps the uterus shrink back to it's normal size. In fact, if a woman doesn't breastfeed her uterus will never return to the size it was before. Breastfeeding also burns a little over 500 calories a day and that helps to lose some of the baby weight. At two weeks post partum I was back in most of my normal clothes and had lost 20 of the 35lbs I gained (my baby was huge, though, so a lot of that was just her being out).
