Is my friends appearance why i'm being denied returns or perhaps all of the items are high theft items. Any one have any advice? Maybe my friend needs to think outside the box with the items he tries to return.

I'm not trying to bust your balls or anything man but the whole "swim/my friend" thing really doesn't offer any protection. But even if it
did, inconsistencies like that really punch a hole in your little security blanket.

Walmart's No Receipt policy applies to items returned in a store only. You have the option of a cash refund (for purchases under $25), a Gift Card for the amount of the purchase (for purchases over $25) or an even exchange for the product. We also follow any manufacturer's warranties. You can make up to three No Receipt returns within a 45 day period.

I don't know if any of that would effect you, but that is wally worlds return policy regarding no receipt returns.
Otherwise I imagine it's possible they're just refusing you because know what you're up to. (or rather they
suspect, because I imagine if they had any proof they'd be taking action against you) I don't know if age/appearence would be a factor here. Though I'd be willing to bet it would help to look mature and somewhat well dressed. i.e. don't dress like a young rebellious kid, dress the socially acceptable "norm".
If anything outside of company policy is effecting your success though, it's prolly more to do with your mannerisms/attitude/confidence/body language/spoken language, or a (and this is very likely) a combination thereof. Basically make sure everything about you says what you're doing is 110% legit. You have to seem as though you are simply making a routine return, the only hiccup being that you've lost your receipt. Make sure you come up with a reason why you are making this return. For example: the hearing aid batteries were for your grandmother, but you got the wrong type. You would gladly exchange them for the correct ones, but your mother went out and bought them so they're no longer needed.
One last important thing is your demeanor. Be polite and respectful. Speak clearly using a good vocabulary, and smile. While using a good, educated sounding vocabulary is important, don't go so far with it that you cannot do it comfortably. If it sounds forced and unnatural then they are going to think you're trying to pull something. Don't use words you don't know, and last but not least don't go so far with the "proper, educated manner of speaking" that you sound condescending. That's never a good way to get someone to trust you.
I hope some of this helps. A lot of it applies to many different things in life. Any time you're dealing with authority (read: cops) it helps to be respectful, eloquent and polite, no matter how much you may hate LE or how much trouble you are/could be in. I've avoided several searches (that would have resulted in a felony drug charge, or several!) by simply being civil and respectful. It's pretty impressive how a good attitude and the proper behavior can often balance out the suspicion typically garnered by being a 20 year old guy with long unruly hair, long baggy studded shorts and a lip ring.
I do apologize for the long ass rambling post. It's 7:40 am and I haven't slept yet, mostly due to shooting lots of oxycodone and dilaudid (after having to deal with/barely keep myself out of withdrawals for several weeks.) and a little (30 mg with 0 tolerance) adderall (iv'd as well). Long story short I'm very tired, a little wired, and a little high.
tl;dr: be respectful and courteous. Look and sound legit and educated. Have a good reason for returning your item. Also, read the return policy I posted above, particularly the bit about a maximum of
3 "no receipt returns" in a
45 day period.
Good luck!
