Headaches
Ever since I was a kid, I've been afflicted by headaches, which strike me both often and hard. I can't play rough sports for long, for it'll give me headaches. I can't jerk my body suddenly, for it'll give me a headache. Even something as a single, loud shout can give me a lasting headache.
I don't think this is quite normal. For goodness' sake, I carry aspirin in my pockets and wallets when I remember to keep them. They're not necessarily something that happens daily, but often enough to be a pain in the ass. It just seems like I'm a bit more fickle when it comes to this.
In addition to this, my grandmother has had severe bouts of migraines for decades. My father tells me that sometimes, she would have headaches so severe that she would shout out and tell him to call the family doctor, since she was incapable of doing so. While she waited, she said she felt like she was dying. Even still, she gets headaches, though none as severe to the point of making her incapacitated like they used to.
What do you guys think causes this? Is this a symptom to something? Is it a problem in itself?

Re: Headaches
I used to get migraines as a kid. I found I got them when I didn't get a good breakfast or lunch. So try eating. Only worked as a preventative measure for me though. If I felt one coming on, eating did no good.
I found some Aspirin gelcaps that seemed to work well. They were the circular kind with the red and yellow halves.
So, just take a nap, and take the aspirin and eat some food when you wake up. Worked for me, but different people can experience different things. I heard of one person who got headaches when he ate cheese. Weird.

Re: Headaches
I doubt it's food related. I always have a healthy breakfast (boiled eggs or oatmeal with o.j. or milk), and I eat lunch and dinner

Re: Headaches
Drink lots of water throughout the day (1.5l preferably) and keep your blood sugar stable throughout the day - eat little and often.

Re: Headaches
I'll try that. I'm sure that I don't get an adequate amount of water. For that matter, I don't go to the bathroom regularly, either. Like, once every other day. I seldom have a glass of water, though I'm often hopped up on soda/pop/whatnot. Does that count towards water consumption?

Cut out the stimulants, especially caffeine.
And by "go to the bathroom" you mean #2 right?

Re: Headaches
Stay hydrated. Get your sleep.
I would also wonder if it's circulation based. High blood pressure may be a problem.
True migraines (not just bad headaches) are hereditary. Do you see spots before the headache? Bright lights make it worse?

Again, my grandmother has experienced severe headaches (migraines) throughout her life, some strong enough to incapacitate her. She also has problems with blood pressure, having just recently had a * minor* cerebral thrombus. I think you're spot on the money. Can these headaches lead to more severe complications?

Re: Headaches
The high blood pressure would be something to look out for. Increased pressure on the brain could be causing the headaches. The headaches are really just an annoyance, but the other complications can be serious. Higher risk of stroke, kidney damage, hardening of the arteries... These are long term though, I don't think you're in any immediate danger.
I would go in for a checkup and mention the chronic headaches and your grandmother's conditions.

Re: Headaches
Water, and lots of it.
I was also suffering from headache in my teenage years.
My doc told me that i either needed glasses because i was always sitting right infront of the tv, or that i had to drink more water.
I got some glasses, and i started to drink alot of water. Now, 5 years later, i don't use glasses, and my headache is gone.
Conclusion:
Read the top text in this post.
You could also try a chiropractor.

You know, my grandmother's family has a history of suffering- and dying- from cardiovascular complications. I think you're absolutely right. Thanks.

Re: Headaches
I feel your pain bro,I started getting headaches every day in first grade at the SAME time,no matter what.
I have learned my triggers for headaches, maybe these will help you out.
-Food(for me things like caffeine, pineapple, chocolate and pop)
-Lack of water
-Lack of food (Skipping breakfast or lunch)
-Lack of sleep
-Squinting-For instance being out in the sun or looking at a computer monitor for too long.
I get BAD headaches, they arent qualified as migraines,I think they are categorized as more of "Cluster" headaches.
Sometimes,I will just get a headache out of NOWHERE and they come on strong and last for a long time, sometimes a straight week.If I get one of these mystery headaches,Ill take aspirin and once the aspirin wears off I start hurting again. These usually last at least two days.
Lights and Sound really hurt in these situations.
Also, smelling chemicals or exhaust sometimes trigger headaches.
The best thing you can do if you feel one coming on is to just pop some aspirin...Thats what I have found works best for me and I have stuck to it.
The shitty thing was is that I worked in construction, and I would get a headache and not have any aspirin sometimes. You wanna talk about a shitty situation? I would feel one coming on,and people are framing walls, drilling, pouring concrete and running equipment.I couldnt leave,I lived an hour or more from the jobs and had no company truck because I rode with somebody.
