Combofix -You're quick cure for stupid internet problems.
Lately with the spread of this google redirect nonsense, I let it run it's course a few moments too long and it ended up even working it's way into
lmhosts, and eventually led to service problems.
In what order, I don't know, I don't usually have this issue.
I've had buddies with W7 who aldo had the "connected" but browser wouldn't bring up addresses etc...
After tinkering and bad advice I found
www.combofix.org
and it helped in combination with my reinstalled AV.
I'm no computer whiz but I thought this may be of help to some of you.

Yeah combofix works pretty well sometimes, other times not so much. Just don't forget to uninstall it with the combofix /uninstall command after you're done.

Sometimes that shit can fuck up your drivers, be careful, but it works great if you have a virus that is hard to get rid of that is hiding in your registry

Re: Combofix -You're quick cure for stupid internet problems.
Combofix is a great tool as a last resort for techs (short of reformatting, I guess), and it will do the trick for people who don't know what they're doing, but it's too rough and potentially destructive to be the first thing you run when you have an infection.
Malwarebytes' quick scan from safe mode with networking and TDSSKiller will take care of most everything. Learn to use them, gmer, autoruns, and process explorer and you can deal with pretty much any infection.

Re: Combofix -You're quick cure for stupid internet problems.
that aint a program for people who don't know what they're doing. this is a warning from the author
Quote:
How to use ComboFix
Introduction
ComboFix is a program, created by sUBs, that scans your computer for known malware, and when found, attempts to clean these infections automatically. In addition to being able to remove a large amount of the most common and current malware, ComboFix also displays a report that can be used by trained helpers to remove malware that is not automatically removed by the program.
At this time ComboFix can only run on the following Windows versions:
* Windows XP (32-bit only)
* Windows Vista (32-bit/64-bit)
* Windows 7 (32-bit/64-bit)
You should not run ComboFix unless you are specifically asked to by a helper. Also, due to the power of this tool it is strongly advised that you do not attempt to act upon any of the information displayed by ComboFix without supervision from someone who has been properly trained. If you do so, it may lead to problems with the normal functionality of your computer.
It should also be noted that when you run ComboFix it will automatically delete files from the following locations:
* Windows Recycle Bin
* Temporary Internet Files
* Temp Folder
If you store files that you wish to keep in one of these location, it is suggested that you move them to a safer location rather than relying on the above temporary storage locations.

its not a normal malware program dummy. i mean maybe your savvy enough to use it(lol), but its not something just anyone should be using. i suspect the OP knows that and is trolling to get people to fuck up their systems.

Re: Combofix -You're quick cure for stupid internet problems.
Yea it deletes drivers and registry keys that may or may not be a threat or virus. Then when you go to start up your computer it will do that System recovery/fix, whatever it is called, and if you are lucky it may work...
