Default My first photoshop rendering

Hullo

This is my first photoshop rendering. I only got photoshop installed last night and it took me most of the day to do this, I'm not very fast and had to re-do a few things. I did the sketches by hand and took a high-res photo (don't have an A3 size scanner), then made a line drawing in a separate layer, then started rending in another layer.

It's not quite finished yet. Need to do a few small details and tidy some things up, get some more highlights in there and some colour bloom/radiosity/atmospheric effects. I know it's not perfect but I'm not really going for a photo-realistic look but something a bit more expressive

Anyway, what do you all think? Any hints or pointers on how I should finish it off and what I should do next time?

Oh, and please bear in mind that I haven't had any formal art tuition so be kind.

I think it's pretty good for such a beginner.
You should look into blend modes for layers, which will be fun to use when it comes to things like adding textures.
Other than that, just keep practising and experimenting.

I've heard a lot of people say that the easiest way to learn about Photoshop is just to follow some tutorials and whatnot, you should check out some of them too, just to get yourself used to it.

lol ummm
well id say dont worry about finishing it,
next time pay more attention to the drawing half than rushing to the rendering stage.
no amount of nice rendering is going to fix a bad drawing.

drawing tips: use a 2 point perspective grid. It might seem like "cheating" or something that beginners do but its exactly the opposite. its what professionals do and what beginners hate doing for some reason.

rendering tips: determine your light source. the shadows and shading in your pic seems completely random

but overall not bad for a first render

Huh well I got in to the university anyway, it's probably one of the best universities in the whole world for automotive design/engineering subjects so I must have done something right.

Like I said, it's not an art degree so I'm not bothered about things being perfect, just good enough to express the characteristics of the vehicle. The first year is 50% illustration skills anyway so I'll get better.

My girlfriend is getting into this sort of stuff (rendering with photoshop). I'm also interested; would you be able to give me some pointers or a quick 1, 2, 3 guide?

Or at least point me in the right direction. Current experience: Colour in lines with paint bucket.

What goes on what layers? How to shade? That sort of stuff.

Experiment with setting the colour of your brush to 60% opacity, and just fill up you area's.
