A Tek Question, Help plz?

SWIM has been doing a bunch of research lately, and SWIM is wondering about PsychoKitty's tek on the rhodium archives. I find serious legitimacy in creating the ketone prior to demethylation in regards to starting with eugenol, without the pyridine microwave technique. Does anyone else agree, and if so do you know how well it works?

In the whole process he only got a 30% yield, I have no experience with these reactions but that seems like a legit number. I'd be quite suspicious if he claimed over 70 percent or something, personally.

But yeah, by the way he describes it, "no smell of eugenol after microwave tek" I'm inclined to believe that step might yield good numbers and it's largely the methyleneation step that you get poor yields. Perhaps look around and try to find the optimal dihalomethane. I've seen BrClmethane used before but don't remember the results.


And by the way, do NOT use SWIM please. It does nothing to protect you and will get you flamed around these parts.
