Man, the original British run of Life On Mars kicks all kinds of arse.
The execution of humour, story, impact and mind fucks were brilliant. Truly one of my favourite tv shows.
I'm currently watching the American version and i'm cringing and shaking my head. They seemed to have lost the 'personality' (for want of a better word) all together. Mostly due the fact that the actors don't completely fit their rolls.
The attempts at quirkiness fail and the acting.. well... i won't go there. The cliches that are apart of the Life On Mars story are painstakingly obvious and unfunny, where as there was so much subtlety on the Brit original that brightened the whole theme.
I need to ease my mind on this. Everyone i've talked to about it don't have an opinion (most common answer: "there was a BBC version?") *sigh*.
What do you guys think? Do you think the American conversion works better? Or am i right to say the show is an unengaging flop?
