The only time I ever got caught shoplifting this is pretty much how it was.

It was for a friend who was having summer allergies and offered me $5 to do it.

And I actually never got charged. I spent about 3-4 hours sitting in the back security office with my friend, but they couldn't pin anything on me because I had handed my friend the benadryl package inside the washroom.

They had me on video pocketing it, but my friend was the one in possession of it when we were approached outside the store.

Ipso facto, they couldn't charge me with anything. Needless to say, they were pretty pissed off.

I'm gonna go fuck with them at Target this weekend. Maybe take in an empty flatbox and a activated magnetic strip wrapped in tin foil, under my fleece. Then take a shit load of expensive electronics, create a blind spot, open up the box and keep it under my fleece, take the strip out of the foil, then dart for the exit. Maybe put on some head phones and start jogging as soon as I'm outside...

But if you're acting like you're stealing, the judge may throw it out. I'm not a lawyer, so I don't know for sure.

My guess would be that the LPO's have some legal recourse as long as they are following a certain basic protocol/procedure. If you appear on video (or in front of witnesses who could testify in court, or whatever) to be acting very suspiciously inside the store (i.e. pretending like you're going to steal something), then they can probably use that to corroborate why they assumed you were stealing.

As far as I know, it's generally legal to physically detain shoplifters, but a lot of companies have policies against it (some aren't even allowed to follow you out of the store) for ass-covering purposes.

It is Canadian and it's basically along the lines of hitting a cop. On average though most security guards won't risk their lives for their shitty pay and in Canada there's so much against a guard it's fucking insane.

When I worked for a security company if there was problems I'd go through all the steps but if it persisted you just called the cops and let them deal with it.
