Do Bullpup assault rifles look a little gay?

Ok, I know all the advantages of the bullpup design; but everytime I see a bullpup assault rifle I think they look slightly gay compared to a conventional design. Anybody else feel the same way?

The L85, F2000 and the one with the large carrying handle look fine but the other looks shit, overall I'd take the F2000 any day because it is sexy.
The only pictured ones that are attractive are the AR15 and maybe the SCAR-L.

Your point is well taken Sir Rolf, the shall we say "unique look" is a small price to pay for a full sized barrel in a compact package.

And while we all know it's important to look cool while you're kicking someones door in, there is nothing cool about a guy behind a corner grabbing your barrel and giving you the business.

The Aus army uses the F88 Austeyr, so I'm qualified on it and have a pretty good idea of how it fires. And it's a fucking dream. Recoil, what recoil? People mock it because it's plastic, but it's fucking tough. Easy to clean. Easy to dismantle and reassemble. The only other full auto I'm comparing it to though is the AK-47.

I love the F88. So versatile.

If you complain about recoil from any 5.56mm, you are probably a giant pussy. Plus, most people stopped making fun of composite guns like 30 years ago...every modern assault rifle except the ak is composite

The aug is the only bullpup I'd ever own, but I like the FAMAS too not the looks but that is a damn fine gun. It even fires rockets, and unlike most guns with a burst mode it isn't also know as instajam mode.

Mizled has it right: a little metro. Also, for me personally, a big guy with longer arms and big hands, a lot of them feel too short. I always end up scrunching my shoulder in and craning my neck uncomfortably to aim them correctly. I like the advantages the design offers, though, and I feel they definitely have a place, but I'm a traditionalist at heart. I'm all for new designs, technologies and innovations, and I keep a very open mind, but I find that the closer a new firearm design is to a "traditional" design/layout, the more I will probably like it. Oh, and the AUG just looks like plasti-crap. I don't care if it works or not, it looks like shit. I do like the way the Tavor, FAMAS and FN-P90 looks though. The lattermost feels WAY too small for me, but I still think it's awesome and well-designed. I'd probably end up shooting it one-handed though, lol.

That's what a bullpup is. It allows the barrel to be longer without having it protrude from the front and unbalance the weight/make CQB movement easier. Supposedly reloading takes some getting used to though.

That is EXACTLY what I had in mind, and also what gave me the idea! Lol. You can probably tell from my avatar that I'm a huge MGS freak. As far as guns and the MGS series, I also appreciate that they go through the trouble to make the guns very realistic (for the most part) AND make sure they have their info and specs right. Great games! I remember when MGS2 came out, I would aim Snake's USP in first-person view, then get my own and compare side-by-side. They did not miss a SINGLE detail, either.

Now I know airsoft =/= real steel, but my airsoft AUG has almost as much metal as the real thing and weighs the same (about 8.5lbs). It is actually a very accurate replica to the real thing. It is just a hair heavier than my converted .223 Saiga (the Saiga weighs so much because it has such a heavy-walled barrel, made from 7.62 barrel stock) but it is so much easier to handle, even one handed because of its set-back center of gravity. I find it quite ergonomic too.

Magazine changes take some getting used to because you're pretty much inserting the magazine into your armpit where you can't really see. You have to point the muzzle almost straight up to insert a magazine unless you have perfect muscle memory and *know* where the magwell is. And obviously mag release requires both hands with the AUG whereas my hands are large enough for me to hit the mag release on my Saiga with my trigger finger while I grab a full magazine with my left hand.

My friend has an airsoft P90 and it was way too small for me, your hands are far too close together to be comfortable holding it two handed. I always used it one handed when I shot it, I'll admit I felt cool doing it .

Sorry for bringing airsoft talk into a real-steel thread, but my only experience with bullpups is with airsoft and *some* things do translate between them (abet few).
