"Extra calories could make up to 20lbs a year!" and other "obesity war" idiocy.
I hate those jackasses on T.V. who say stupid bullshit like this.
They're the same morons who think they are saving the nation/world from obesity and bad eating as if it really is killing us, when most of those people are: 1) A small part of the population (around 1/3 usually) and; 2) fucking dimwits anyway.
So let's make that fact clearer:
Quote:
|
Around 1/3 of the country is obese and/or overweight.
|
Big fucking deal . That's not even half for crying out loud. A proportion of the country is also made up by chavs, idiots, pregnant teens, addicts etc, but we don't act as if those people are the base model for everyone living here and attack everyone's lives according to sorting these problems out...
They often say stupid shit like "one bag of crisps could add up to 8lbs per year" not taking into account that people have to consume those calories as part of caloric excess and that you'd have to not burn off any calories i.e, not do any exercise, walking, wanking, etc.
A new report has shown that:
Quote:
Many people are unaware of the calorie content of alcohol, a survey shows.
Four in 10 did not know a glass of wine has the same calories (120) as a slice of cake, or that a pint of lager and a small sausage roll have 170 each.
The poll of 2,000 adults in England was carried out as part of the government's drive to curb people's drinking habits...
http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/health/8002991.stm
|
Yeah, is that so? Here are some more facts: Most people don't give a shit about how many calories are in their drink. What would you do if someone started harping on at you saying you might as well be eating cake at the bar? You'd introduce their teeth to the justice of boot leather.
The poll was only 2,000 people anyway. 2,000 out of around 50-60 million. Yeah, nice, accurate findings there I'm sure. Perhaps I should conduct a poll to find out how many people give a shit about what they are putting into their bodies? Or how many people want all drugs legalised and ready to buy over the counter? I'm sure the results would be revolutionary according to the governments standards.
Let people have a big mac and fries, let them have cake. Let them drown in coke if they want to. If it's a strain on the system because this is what people have chosen to do then sort the taxing system out so it fits this national lifestyle accordingly.
I think me, SotB, Snoopy and a few others should just run the world. There would be less bullshit.

One out of every three people being so overweight it will cause health problems and early death is in no way a small group of people. It's an enormous problem that scientist say may cause this to be the first generation where life expectancy goes down.

I think most people forget calories are energy, and that excess "energy" can be wasted if not allocated properly.
Edit: It's not about how much calories you are eating, it depends on what the calories are from.
Fat Calories
Carb Calories
Protein Calories.

how is 1/3 of several million not a lot of people?
and not all that 1/3 are those social degenerates you speak of, heck, the overweight ones are more likely to be the older, middle aged people because of their slower metabolism

Clearly not true. Pensioners and the "older generation" are a large part of the population in England, and they're skipping meals because they can't afford food and heating and opt for staying warm. Watch the news sometime, it's a great tool for not looking like a jackass.

How the hell am I supposed to bulk up, when everything around is "fat-free", "low-calorie" and what not?
And how the hell do people get fat anyway? I am struggling to take 3k calories a day just to reach my daily calorie spending. What the hell are those people eating?

This. I don't want to wade through thousands of Mayo alternatives. I just want plain, full fat mayo.
I know, have you seen how much it costs to eat more than your maintainence level? How do they afford it?

Yeah, right.
I grilled myself a lumpy piece of stake the other day, that took half the plate.
Then, out of interest, I decided to check how many calories are in there.
Guess how many? 350! A pathetic 350 calories. That's 1/10th of what I have to take daily.
2 sausages is around 200 calories. I have to eat 6 of them for lunch, with some bread, to get anywhere near a decent amount of calories!
Thank God for full fat milk. 3 pints a day = extra 1k calories!

Re: "Extra calories could make up to 20lbs a year!" and other "obesity war" idiocy.
Not to go off topic too much, but as long as they're hitting a high enough intake of protien wouldn't it be better for these slightly overweight -soon to be obese if they carry on- to hit a gym and bulk up? They're probably hitting the excess they need; protien levels pending. Sure, they'd be a tad fat after, but they'd actually get in a gym and see results. All they need to do is eat less after that to cut fat and get in a better shape, healthier weight etc, and they'd have gained some healthy muscle mass and dexterity.
On Topic: Fuck fat people.

Yeah because we would really let you.
Fat people don't piss me off as much as the aneroxic people. Once I got a whole pizza to share between me and a few girls while at the beach. They all ate 1 slice and I had 4. What a waste of money that was, they could have all shared some garlic bread.

That's true.
In fact, doing cardio is not a very good idea for fat people - they would strip both fat and muscle, and the more muscle you have, the more energy you spend naturally.
Doing some powerlifting, however, while paying some attention to what they eat, could do them a whole load of good.

I assume you mean kcal.
If you want to do it healthily, lift hard and eat meat, drink milk (like you're already doing) but don't discount things like peanut butter, nuts and eggs. Also eat your carbohydrates and eat more often.
If you're already doing all of this, disregard that I suck cocks.

Anyway, can we get back on topic about how the country makes out as if we're all fat, useless and in need of intervention? It sickens me.
Adjust the taxation system if you have to, but people will always stick what the fuck they want into their bodies. The government is there to serve the people, and if the people want to be served fatty, shit food then work around it.

Who said they'd have to? I only said adjust the system. If you're clincally obese and it's through your own fault, go for an annual medical or something and they can add extra tax onto you to help pay for the care only obese people cause to be needed. A fat tax as it were. Don't like it? Do something about it, lose weight.
Not fair? I think so. Not fair is me paying taxes for the NHS for the last 3 years but only using their services once to get some free asprin. Hardly a fair represenatation of my money working for me in terms of services. Should I get a rebate of sorts? Most would say no because it doesn't make sense.
People don't want to say add new taxes for people straining the system because it's somwhow morally wrong to mention that people are fat and causing social decay. Fuck them.

Fucking this. I had to struggle to get enough kcal's when I worked for a month in Glasgow (immigrant worker FTW!). In order to survive I supplemented my meat-rice-fruit diet with cheese cake for example. Or, after 3 hours of working (glass collector, not tough physical labor) and another 6-7 ahead of me I would go and buy 2 cheap energy drinks and a pack of cookies (over 2500 kcal all together) and eat all that. I still lost a wee bit of weight after such a month.
I'm in favor of a fat tax in the UK. Believe me, come to eastern europe and you will NOTICE the difference in the number of whale-walkers in the streets.

Such a stupid post.
How much do you think an easy ad campaign of eat healthy costs, as opposed to the increase in taxes to deal with the health and other costs of obesity. (Secret: the ad campaign is cheaper)
Secondly in political terms, the ad campaign is much easier, no one likes taxes, few give a fuck about a campaign.
