Meditation to Increase Testosterone?
So I had a thought the other night, would it be possible to significantly effect hormone levels (ie growth hormone, testosterone, estrogen and cortisol) using meditation, in this case Transcendental meditation? And if so how would one go about increasing or decreasing the selected hormones?
Here are some of the things I was looking at,
This link suggest that meditation could allow one to control a number of functions that run under the parasympathetic nervous system.
LINK
This link shows a reduction in cholesterol over control with mediation.
LINK
This link deals specifically with correlation of stress hormones and mediation.
LINK
So what do you guys think? Possible? Practical?

Re: Meditation to Increase Testosterone?
When you meditate, you have a much easier time noticing the subtle inner workings of your own body, and as such I can understand how you'd influence them, though I've never really been interested enough to try it... With something like testosterone levels though, do you know what your current levels "feel" like? How would you know what you were aiming for?
I wouldn't trust too much I read about something like meditation.
But if you're curious, try it.

I doubt it would do much, if anything. Feel free to prove me wrong though...

Re: Meditation to Increase Testosterone?
A natural way to release testosterone is to do heavy compound weightlifting, like squats / deadlifts.
I'm doubtful as to the claims of meditation benefits other than philosophical or spiritual enlightenment.

Yea of course I do all of that good stuff. I love dead lifts!
I'm looking at this as a kind of thing to do as a supplement to lifting, like before bed.
Doesn't it seem like the brain could be tricked into producing more juice?

Re: Meditation to Increase Testosterone?
Strictly speaking, meditation is done to still the mind, with no specific physical goal.
Visualization/and or affirmations could work, however.

I actually do something like meditating between lifts. Sometimes when I start lifting really heavy, I start to scare myself. Just by looking at the weights I got on the bar scares me sometimes. So I meditate between lifts to calm my heart down and try to clear my mind so I can actually focus. But once I start lifting I can only focus so much on my form until my mind starts going bat shit insane again.

You just need to get vexed and do them weights man. Then it will start to pump the testosterone, then you can grow a beard and be manly.

Well, you know what they say about meditation. Once you start meditating to achieve a specific goal, that goal becomes out of your reach. It is only when you let go of your desire for it, that it will manifest.

im also skeptical, but perhaps somehow it is possible. If i recall, most of the release of hormones are controlled by the unconscious part of the brain, but canbe triggered by sensations detected by the conscious side. Im guessing what the OP is talking about is the simulation of these situations in his mind.

My meditation session requires some porn, lube and kleenex.

If you are meditating with a goal you are not meditating

Not necessarily. This is a common misconception, as there are different types of meditation.
Sometimes I meditate just to get more in tune with w/e the hell is out there (emptiness, apparently). Sometimes it's to revitalize my energetic centers. Other times it's to contemplate an idea, a problem, a way to go.
Sometimes I just like to induce psychedelia/phantasia, or astral project
You can also use it to concentrate, move yr energy around, whatever...
Or to manifest actions, objects, events...even people, sometimes...

Depends on your definition I suppose, I equate meditation with just experiencing the mind.
The other stuff I might call yoga. Who gives a fuck what I call it though, I know what you mean.
