Go to big events, like 300 or more people.

Wear appropriate clothes, not jeans or a t shirt.

Act normal, try to avoid the bride/groom/13 year old. Try to befriend someone who is seated all alone because they probably don't know anyone there either and it gives you the appearance of a true guest.
