This is just about how I feel about any big name system integrators like HP, Dell, Apple (except Apple is almost inconceivably worse in every regard). Personally I have had good experience with one smaller company (
http://www.ztsystems.com/) which has decent pricing for their home systems and they will typically last more than long enough until the technology becomes outdated, necessitating an upgrade (unless you have basic or casual computing needs; I like games). The best overall are AMD-ATI based home-built computers with components bought off of somewhere like Amazon where they're ridiculously cheap. In fact, my living room is currently home to many components which will soon be put to use.
