I didn't troll in this thread. If you take a look at the first page you will find that I was one of the very few people who posted something realistic.

Because all our PCs are made by Foxconn in China in the same facility with the same materials, bought from the same suppliers. All of them use the same x86 architecture and run windows, with the sole exception of Macs. It's pointless to buy an HP for the sake of buying an HP; you should buy whatever PC offers you the best specs for however much you're willing to spend. In my experience, it's been ASUS when it comes to laptops; I have a G73 and I've never had a problem with it's build. 1 year prior to that, I made the massive mistake of buying a Vaio for general computing purposes during my travels. Sony is, essentially, the Apple of non-Apple PCs, giving you ridiculously overpriced laptops.

tl;dr, there's nothing inherently wrong with those brands, their current offerings are just a worse bang for your buck.

I don't think it runs the same, but there's no point of arguing this.

I use a Macbook Air as my main computer because I travel a lot. It's light, has a great display, and enough storage for me on the road. The display and battery life is important to me.

I use a Windows PC (desktop) at home, and do pretty much the same work on both. I do like automator & applescript, but could definitely replace both in a Windows (or Linux) machine if I really wanted to.

A) At a proper viewing distance, the higher resolution on a mere 15 inch screen is indistinguishable

B) You most certainly don't have any media that runs at 2880x1800. Even Bluray quality films are only 1080p

C) The higher resolution takes more power to draw up. Even if you were playing video games, a Macbook wouldn't be able to push the resolution in a decent graphical quality and would probably melt your crotch

EDIT: To elaborate, it comes with a GT 650M and a 2.7 GHz i7. That's a mid-range card and it's not going to give youa smooth and good looking experience at that res.

In conclusion; Apple uses stupid sheeple such as yourself, who think that looking at a spec sheet makes them computer wizards and fools you into believing you're not getting a shit product.

The higher screen resolution is, for all intents and purposes, useless.

lol, neutered PC. Might as well just buy a tablet with an SD and/or USB slot or something and save yourself some cash.

I disagree completely. I can do everything I need to on a Macbook. I tried getting by on a Tablet (it was an Android Tablet, before I did have access to a Windows Tablet), and this does what I need a lot better. Since you're anti-mac, there's no point arguing with you - you're going to stand with what you want to. All I know is this computer does everything I need, and weighs little enough that I can bring it with me anytime I want.

No, he's looking for open-minded opinions. Windows, Mac and Linux all cater to various groups, and many people fall into all categories. Even though I prefer Mac for what I do on computers, I can't recommend it to everyone.

I also can't recommend linux for many, because they don't "need" the extra learning it comes with.

I don't tie my sexual preferences to a computer. If you're not referring to homosexuality, then I just have no idea what you'er saying.

Either way, I'm done arguing with you because it's derailing the thread. If you want to just flame mac users, start your own thread. I'll gladly join you there. PM me the link.

Yeah, but one day... plus it seems at the moment that they're still set to give you the same screen real estate of 1440x900, it's just to make scalable graphics in the rest of the OS/applications look smoother.

Despite anything else you can't deny the "retina" displays are dead sexy and if they were a woman you would fuck her without a condom. Agreed on that point?

No; a Macbook Pro with a Retina display is roughly analogous to a girl with a rockin' body and a supermodel face who lies on the bed like a dead fish and lets you do all the work. That's not a good fuck, that's just some eyecandy. You'd say "i'd bang her" if you saw her in a tight dress, but when you're actually banging her, she's a pretty mediocre lay and even as eyecandy, she wears loose tent-like clothing.

As I said, it's functionally indistinguishable at a regular viewing difference from a decent viewing distance. Think about it, it's 226 ppi. Pixels that size become invisible at about 12 inches away from the screen. Compared to a 1080p screen, it's functionally useless. There won't be any difference in "smoothness" and whatnot, and it's certainly not worth paying $2200+ for a mediocre laptop with that screen.

It's all about personal preference, and I'm not sure anyone here can truly answer your question.

Personally speaking, I've never been fond of Mac OSX. It's not a bad operating system, but the interface is just too much for me. I like simplicity, and while OS X is touted for being more simple, I find it to be much more cluttered than a traditional desktop interface. I'm also not a fan of the global menu system that made OS X unique for many years. I find I have to click on windows more often with it, and it's hell with multiple monitors. However, I know plenty of people who like their Macs. But they aren't for me.

I've been computer savvy for many years, and I love getting into the nitty gritty of my devices. So I'm a Linux user.

I think Linux is the PS Vita of OS kernels. There's so much potential and all the distroes are so good.... But nobody's going to support that shit any time soon, not until PCs ship by default with Ubuntu or another user friendly distro and third parties support it more seriously. Linux is perfect for back-end and power-user stuff, but for the average user, it's just a slightly shittier Windows. Hell, as a wholehearted supporter of open source software, even I have to admit OpenOffice oesn't hold a candle to MS Office. Hell, it's got a worse copy/paste system. A worse fucking copypaste system.

My main hate for Apple doesn't just come from hardware. I wholeheartedly fucking hate OSx, too. It's different for the sake of being different, it's unintuitive and it's generally a pompous, divisive waste of programming, specially with the steaming hot shitpile that is Lion. It's literally all the disadvantages of Linux and Windows and none of the benefits:

Power hungry? Check.
Unintuitive and unfamiliar interface that offers no benefits? Check.
Not user friendly? Check
Not supported by a majority of third party software? Check.
Rapes it's own backwards compatibility every few years? Triple check.
Supports a variety of hardware drivers? Trick question, Apple will now rape you.
Routinely fucks up Flash formatting? Check it, then check it again to make sure it's inked

Why not buy a regular PC with the same specs for half the price and hackintosh?

Finally we agree on something.

Mac users are all dumbasses. Granted, some people are forced into using them for work, and that's allowed, but if you use a Mac by choice, you're a fucking idiot.

that's because apple products are designed FOR idiots specifically. since most people are idiots, that's why apple's market cap is $500 billion

Youll get a bit of a bias towards pcs here because this place is full of dirt poor antisocial counter trend basement dwellers.

From someone whose used both, pcs will offer more raw performance and funcionality for the same price, but

The mac has nicer design and ui. It also has sex appeal.
If youre sitting in a coffee shop with a pc, youll look like a business person, with a mac youll look more trendy.

So it depends really on what you need to do with it.

If you were getting a desktop i would never get a mac.

With a Laptop as long as youre not on a tight budget and understand that youre paying a premium for "non-tangible" factors (other than form factor), theres nothing wrong with getting a mac.

If this was a different forum, I'd rip you 4 new assholes for being such a douchebag but considering that this is zoklet, your douchebaggery applies almost in full to the community.

Check.
User friendly?

I agree that Linux, in general, isn't great for the average user. As far as support goes, I've found that Linux has supported the vast majority of hardware that I've used with it; sometimes better than Windows. The only device I've ever used with Linux that didn't work as well as on Windows is my Logitech camera with PTZ support. Sure, the video works with VFL2, but I get no PTZ capability(though this is partly Logitech's fault for making the camera so reliant on their shitty software).

OpenOffice has also met nearly all of my needs for the past 7 years. It has had some huge flaws as far as the interface and memory useage, some of which have been worked out over the years, but it's met all my needs. Then again, I'm not heavily reliant of a word processor for what I do, so I'm sure there are some things in it that would piss off a regular Word user. But I guess this is another great example of how Linux can be great for one person and can be a burden for another. My main use for my computer is for digital graphics, and many professional packages such as Maya work natively in Linux(and perform much better than in Windows). It's too bad that Adobe hasn't decided to port any of their software(say Photoshop) to Linux, because I think Linux could become the de-facto artists' platform given some work.

You're pretty much right-on about OS X. Those are most of the reasons why I have never been a fan of Apple products in general. But, many people insist that it's superior to their former Windows experience, and I've found there's not much you can do to prove them wrong even when they have all the exact same problems they had on Windows. I find that most OS X people don't know how to really use it any better than Windows, and I suspect that this is both a combination of user laziness and the fact that aspects of the OS X interface are so bad.

OS X also breaks lots of software every time they release a new version. I can't count the amount of times I've heard of various software packages not working anymore because of "Snow Leopard" or "Lion". I find that amusing because I've always heard idiots complain about how Windows "isn't backwards compatible enough" and all that shit, but I've almost never had trouble installing and running old software on Windows or Linux. OS X, on the other hand, can't seem to handle year-old software without some sloppy updates that are shipped out months later or without third-party hacks.

You're a fucking idiot. If you're sitting in a shop with a Mac, people who're not retarded will either look at you and laugh that you bought a $1000 netbook or not give a fuck because despite what Apple's marketing has you think, you'll still be a butt-ugly methhead, just with an overpriced laptop and you'll look no more trendy than you usually would.

Then you also need to question the intelligence of the person who spent an extra 500 dollars because he thinks people sitting in a coffee shop (minding their own business and who'll likely never interact with him let alone pay him any attention whatsoever) will think it's cool.

only a faggot cares about how his fucking computer LOOKS. I don't care how the fucking thing looks, only that it's cheap and works good. APple looks good, but cost 3x and works worse (because the OS is so limiting).

But you illustrate my point. idiots who actually are dumb enough to care how their computer looks, instead of how well it works and costs, will be drawn to apple.

I know. I remember watching an old apple advertisement and the people on it were fucking idiots. They were like "I don't understand how the power button works", " I just want something simple", "PC's are too complex", "I was using a PC and all of a sudden half my paper was gone (lol what a fucking idiot).

Shit like that. Apple knows its market well and targets them effectively.

Can someone reccomend me a decent laptop, also how do mac laptops compare with PC's?
Your question makes no sense as they are both pc's.
