8-year old armed robber in Oakland

Two boys, ages 8 and 10, were detained by police after they allegedly tried to rob an East Oakland mini-mart with a BB gun, authorities said Friday.

The boys apparently stole candy from the AM/PM gas station minimart at 98th Avenue and International Boulevard shortly after 7 p.m. on Thursday, said Officer Jeff Thomason, Oakland police spokesman.

The two then brandished a BB gun at the clerk, who went to the back of the store and called police, Thomason said.

Officers arrived and detained the boys, whose names weren't released because of their ages. They were given notices to appear in court and were released to their parents.

I lived for a while a bit down the street from them at International & 57th. I can easily see that happening. I heard gunshots almost every night while living there.
